This is my review of the APR Performance tune on my Porsche 718 Cayman S. I go in-depth into the various features and give a real perspective from an owner with 2 years of experience driving the car with the tune on the car.

I agree with your points and shared experience with APR tuning. I did it on my Audi A6, some 5 years ago, the outcome is remarkable, and, as you said, with fuel economy too.

Commenting again to thank Allen for the very quick response to me. The best reviewers respond to their viewers, and Allen checks that box very well.

Good video.
APR now allows you to do it yourself at home. Big bonus.

I pulled the 7.5amp soundaktor (sp?) fuse on my way home from the dealership! So much better.

Tune does not void your entire warranty. The issue you have has to be related to the tune.

For the temperatures, I have a tuned 718T with a downpipe, and observed the same: Normal mode does not pop and bang while the sport does bang and pop, so I assume the extra fuel injected helps to keem the engine colder. I have the sport + mode that does not pop and bang, and I ll check if I notice a higher temperature. If so, it is definitely linked to the added fuel uses for the pops and bangs.

Just wanted to give you a heads up on why the temps go up when you close the sport exhaust. The closed exhaust builds backpressure and that builds heat and it shows more in an engine that is boosted by a compressor more so than a natural aspirated engine . Get the 3rd radiator setup, local dealer or Suncoast Parts, it will help keep things cool when you push the car; not just for track conditions. I reside in Florida and have a 2nd gen 987 Cayman S with quite the list on performance mods and a tune won't give you much like it does with a boosted engine application.

You can't see a linear throttle response by looking at the Dyno chart. For the Dyno testing they hold the throttle at full in a given gear and record the results. Linear throttle mapping is different- manufacturers like to trick you into thinking your car is faster than it is by giving you more power when you first press the throttle, so like 70% of the power is in the first 30% of throttle movement, then you press it down and wonder where the rest of the power is. This doesn't let you predict and learn how your car will respond to throttle inputs. Linear throttle mapping means that when you press the throttle 10% the ECU treats it as 10% load, 30% gives you 30%, etc. It makes throttle modulation much easier and enhances car control. In the old days when you press the throttle, a cable mechanically opened the throttle body valve to let more air in. Now when you press the throttle there is a sensor and the throttle body valve is opened electronically. Linear mapping allows it to open according to the pedal movements.

Very helpful video, thanks for posting. Can still running well? I'm thinking about doing the APR tune very soon.

Hmm, I'm currently searching for a Boxster S, ...the right one. I'm currently in the "BMW" tuning world, ...and this "APR" thing is a great find, ...as it allows me to expand from the 981 Boxster search to the 982 Boxster search! Thk you vm...

Couldnt rely on APR, they were not very professional when it came to dealing with my 16BS. Ended up going with a local tuner who got same numbers @ lower cost. Shop around, theres plenty of good tuners able to do the work. Also think these cars are still being tuned conservatively.

yes you now can do it yourself apr tune by buying the self tune dongle it allows u to add the tune yourself and remove it whenever you have to go to the dealership.

Those gains are quite insane for just a simple retune. Especially the torque gains!

So it has been a year since you got the tune, how's everything? Did you run into any issues?

Quick thought. Let’s say you have an issue you want to deal with under warranty ... count you till back the tune and go into the dealership with standard settings?

Did it goes on the dyno to check power before and after ? Just to know exactly the power gained

Hey man, where in KY are you? In one of your other videos I heard you say that’s where you were. Anyway I’m in London KY and I have a cayman S and I’ve been debating this tune, love the videos! Also where in KY did you go to get the tune uploaded?

Edit: you answered this never mind lol
