This is part 3 , where I get the MGB GT ready for its first shoe-down since a long time. In this episode I install an expansion and spill tank, a fuel regulator. We repaint the engine and clean-up. I rebuild the Weber DCOE and at the end I get it all to run and test

I adapted a Weber DCOE to my 1973 Datsun pickup's 1600cc engine way back in the late 70s. Quite the educational experience. Loved learning about adjusting the Weber. Also had to recurve the distributor for mechanical advance only because the Weber doesn't have a vacuum advance circuit. One thing I noted in your video, did you check the mating of the intake manifold to the head? Making sure the gasket isn't creating any lips is one thing, but mating the manifold to the head is important as well! Any little gap or depression will cause puddles of fuel to form and compromise even fuel mixing in the cylinders (which I'm sure you know). Love that throaty Weber sound!

Thank you for taking the time to make a well produced video. Your attention to detail makes a difference in terms of reliability and performance in a race car. I raced a Datsun 510 for many years in SCCA club racing here in the US. Can you tell me what solution you use in your ultrasonic cleaner. This video convinced me I need to buy one. Thanks so much. I am a new subscriber.

Noticed you have some of the better quality hose clamps, for clamping pressure. That style doesn't deform easily.

Great video. So, your catch can collects excess coolant as well as oil fumes from the engine? Dual purpose?

Excellent video Steve. I really like the paint job on the engine and exhaust manifold. What type of paint did you use? Enamel? One issue Steve, there is a very small drip of red paint on the black block right by the oil filter housing which was driving me mad as I watched you install the oil filter. 😂😂😂😂. Thanks Steve, keep them coming 👍🇬🇧😊

At this time, have you carried out a compression test on each cyclinder? I don't know this engine, but valve reseat and checking airflow into the engine's cyclinders and making improvements would be timely. Also, is the distributor electronic to ditch the old points?? Nice work. Best wishes.

Can you show how the air ducts from the front valance to the brakes work please? I have the same valance, as I don't race it's just for looks and to de-bumper what was a rubber bumper car, but I could never work out how to actually run ducts from the openings onto the brakes. On my Riley exhaust I used stainless lock wire to tie on the wrap as it looked a little more period correct for a vintage car than modern metal cable ties. The wire digs in and is less visible on the wrap.

I had problems with a brand new regulator which would get blocked intermittently so I bypassed it, I haven't investigated why it has been a problem yet. The make is Malpassi

So glad you posted this! I just ordered the same FPR Malpassi and just installed a small spill tank. But you got the ones I was originally looking at. So now i have an exact idea how to install mine. Thanks for the great videos too! And love your cars! Very big fan.
