Cut my thumb off once with a table saw. But when a silly cold comes around, I am a small frail Victorian child asking to be wheeled out to watch my last sunset.

As a woman who has chronic health issues on top of the monthly incident, severe discomfort will always be worse than pain. If it’s hurting, it’s just a reminder that you’re alive. If your sinuses are blocked and you’re choking on phlegm, it’s a reminder of your mortality.

They truly love embracing their inner Victorian era selves, acting as sickly as possible. What a historic circle.

Being sick is so much worse.

Pain is easy to ignore because it’s usually constantly the same unless it gets better or significantly worse.

Sickness is just constant discomfort, plus random bursts of increased discomfort. Plus it affects your whole body and not just one part

It’s like when we’re sick, we feel all the power being sapped away from us. Even injured, I still could defend my family. But what am I going to do if I’m absolutely WINDED and can only breathe through one nostril???

When we hurt ourselves, we have let our own body down and don't want to admit it. When we get sick, it feels like our bodies have let _us_ down, so we feel betrayed

I'm a 22 yo woman. When I was 19 yo I developed a cortisone allergy which caused me a horrible joints pain, my 2 KIDNEYS was suffering of SEVERE pain, trembling and tachycardia (and I almost died of heart attack) and it (the pain and the accelerated heart activity) deprived me from 3 days/nights of sleep, so I was awake for 3 days in a row feeling the worst pain of my life - and they couldn't give me ANY medicine because they thought the better way to help it was to let my kidneys withdraw the toxin by themselves naturally (why? I don't know), so I had to handle But the funniest part of that, is that I was BARELY showing any emotion, I borrowed a book from the nurse about the Holocaust and started reading that (don't remember the name), even talked to others patients and nobody could tell I was BURNING IN SEVERE PAIN SEVERELY SLEEP DEPRIVED AND THINKING I WAS GONNA DIE ASKING "WHY GOD? WHY???" because I was talking, reading, smiling, laughing, and had a relaxed expression on my face.

My mother said that when I was a baby/toddler/kid it was always hard to measure my pain because I've always been very tolerant about that.

I've felt a lot of physical pain throughout my 22 years of life but that 3 days was pure agony (doctors use to say that kidney pain is close to labor pain, so it's the second worst pain a human can "naturally" feel - And I was struggling with 2 kidneys pain) and even tho, people couldn't tell I was suffering....

But when I get sick??? You'll hear me cry 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I'm with men on this one. Pain is a lot easier to handle than all the crap you deal with when you're sick. 😩

Wound is pain, sick is weakness. One is more tolerable.

Compared to getting a bloody nose from getting hit in the face with a soccer ball and having a fever. I prefer the soccer ball

There's a pain tolerance.
There is no tolerance for being sick.

I have never felt so called out yet so validated at the same time. As a 29 year old man, I've shrugged off fractured bones, pulled my back lifting something at work, sprained ankles, pulled muscles, bad cuts that I still have scars for, and never once sought medical help. Also last year I went to the hospital and took off a week of work because I thought I was dying, because I had the flu
