The converse and inverse of a conditional statement

Given a conditional statement, we can write down the converse or inverse of this statement. Combined with contrapositive and biconditional these form the four related statements to a given conditional statement.

I'm trying to understand the thrust of what we are learning so far in this course. It's a bit elusive. I understand all the pieces, and I even get some sense of the utility. But I don't think I really understand what is going on.

My best sense of it in words is that what we are learning is why Game of Life is so interesting. Build complexity or reduce it. Categorization and why.

It's fun and interesting, but I'm only seeing six inches in front of me.

The Inverse is not necessarily logically equivalent, but it is possible for the inverse of a statement to be logically equivalent, right? For instance, "if the store is open, you can buy something from it" and the inverse "if the store is not open, you can not buy something from it"
