Purchased one of these 167ers a few days ago . Will use it as a backup for my RTS mk.1.
Great handling, superb viewfinder, quiet shutter and transport.

Hey Max, as a life-long Contax/Carl Zeiss user I can recommend one thing. Never sell that lens! The 35 1.4, 85 1.4 and 50 1.4 were back in the day and still are the best in class manual 35mm slr lenses. When I was studying photography in the 80's shooting models in studio, my photography instructor was blown away by my Zeiss 85 1.4 because it showed every imperfection on the model's skin, too sharp! For the price, can't beat that 50 Planar. Have seen your other videos, you've got some great portraits. Cheers...

My first and only (aside from P&S’s) current camera was also a Canon A1, so hearing this review practically made the decision for me. An aesthetic yet practical camera that isn’t extortionate…the F3 can wait 😅

Great video! Do you know if the Carl Zeiss planar 1.7/50mm t* suits/fits to this camera?

I’ve tried the Contax 159mm with a 50 f1.7 and it was great. My friend gave me the camera but sold the lens for $300. Looking back I should of bought it. I do have a G1 and T2 as well. Love the Zeiss lenses.

nice light set up in the shoot and the pics you get with this camera are live.

Just got one from a local camera store for 230 euros including the Zeiss Planar 50mm 1.7. The camera feels like a tank and i just started taking it through the first roll. Really impressed with the body, and although the controls are indeed a bit confusing, I usually stick to Aperture control and shoot away.

Nice review Max. I would want to see reviews of more obscure cameras, and hear more of your personal story connecting you to individual cameras.

Just curious if you still have the CONTAX 167MT and if you picked up any other Carl Zeiss lenses?

The 167 is a bit of an oddity in the Contax manual Focus slr range, as most of the contaxes used dials instead of the slider and buttons approach, I guess that is why is doesn't seem to have been very well liked, and they seemed to drop that approach. I suspect makes it more of a bargain. I think it was the first of the slr range to have spot metering in addition to centre weighted, which is handy . Excellent lenses and a good viewfinder and a good high maximum shutter speed. The program modes only work with the later MM lenses. Most of the contax models can suffer from mirror slip, which is repairable but a nuisance when it happens.
