Why are we covering crucifixes, statues of saints, and images in Lent?

In a counterintuitive action, the Church has us veil the images that depict Christ and the saints during Passiontide. If we are focusing on His Passion, why are we veiling these images?

The fifth Sunday of Lent marks Passiontide, when we start to focus more on the Passion of Christ. It is also the time when, counterintuitively, the Church asks us to veil the images that depict Christ and the saints. Why, if we are focusing on His Passion, are we veiling these images? In this video, Fr. Frederick helps untangle this puzzle by explaining how these covered images of Christ help demonstrate the significance, sorrow, and loss of His Passion.

The Norbertine Canons of St. Michael's Abbey have created this digital Lenten retreat so that you can journey through this holy Lenten season alongside them. Sign up to receive daily reflections and weekly videos highlighting the beauty, and spiritual treasures of lent.

This past Sunday I had just watched a podcast about the Shroud of Turin. While at Mass our large crucifix was veiled and all I could see was the shrouded crucified Christ above the Tabernacle. My heart was flooded with the love our blessed Savior has for us. God bless!

I'm sorry... but want to convey that even as a young child.. very... the "covering" of EVERYTHING during the Season... and in a mournful
but beautiful PURPLE, always seemed to take away - cover.. hide...the GLORY of our Lord and God's gift to man; even life iteself. As I've
aged...to this day...it still seems hurtful, painful...giving a hopeless feeling...taking away from us our Savior. Can't shake it I guess...
THANKS for this insight.... but it hasn't changed the way this comes across. no matter the years or my efforts. TY

We also veil them in honour of the Orthodox Church which celebrates a week prior to the Holy Roman Catholic Apostolic Church!

Jesus is alive!!!
Roman Catholicism keeps Christ still on the cross! - it is idolatry strictly forbidden in The Bible!
Roman Catholicism is so antibiblical.
