From Family Man to Doomsday Sex Cult Leader | Wayne Bent

In 1987, a man named Wayne Bent broke away from his position as head Pastor of the 7th Day Adventist church…in fact, he walked away from the religion altogether. He created his own off shoot of the SDA church and soon amassed a following of 300 ex-SDA members. At first, life seemed quaint and simple in this new church, but before long, Wayne started showing his darker side. He claimed the Archangel Michael had appeared to him and given him a message…he was the Messiah. He changed his name to Michael Travesser and brainwashed his followers into blindly trusting every single thing he said. And before long, this little known cult would make national news. “Michael” wasn’t the Messiah. He was a sexual predator.

His tactics, while recruiting, remind me of Jodi Hildebrandt. In order, the ruining of the marriage and family connections, the deep discussions of a person's worst traits, past trauma, the savior mentality, convincing a person that they are the only one who can to fix their life, then, the abuse. It seems to be a script of evil intentions.

I grew up with a kid who was 7DA. He was like a teenage Mister Rogers and he had this really weird "pure" quality about him. Very nice guy, mild mannered, probably never had a sexual thought, class valedictorian, etc etc. It was slightly creepy but it was okay because he's a lovely human being.
