George Washington said in 1796 that political parties would be incapable of providing good government. So today here is how it lines up: Republicans 20%, Democrats 30%, independent voters-- over 40%. Independent voters are prevented from voting in elections they are forced to pay for and from being candidates for office by state election laws passed in recent years by party politicians dedicated to keeping independent candidates from appearing on the ballot. So it will take some time before Americans regain control of their own government. Where the major parties have already lost the battle is in voter registration. Starting at a single digit percentage of the voters in John F. Kennedy's Presidency, independent voters have increased until they now almost outnumber all political party members. Eventually, they will regain their ability to run for public office and the two major parties will disappear. When we have independent voters running against independent voters and being elected, we will know that we have restored free and open elections in the United States.
