Lady Gaga’s mom on witnessing daughter’s 'turn' in mental health

Lady Gaga's mother, Cynthia Germanotta, joins "CBS This Morning's" special "Stop the Stigma" broadcast to talk about the impact of mental illness on family and friends. Germanotta teamed up with her daughter to create the Born This Way Foundation. It works to educate people about mental and emotional wellness.

I met her mom at the first tour stop of the born this way bus tour they launched years ago. My youth center was contacted prior to the event requesting a handful of volunteers and I was chosen. It was an incredible experience. Her mom walked around chatting with volunteers and we had a great conversation. She was a totally genuine down to earth funny kind woman.

I agree, my entire family suffered with mental trauma due to my Dad's alcoholism. I tried dealing with the guilt and pain on my own and it didn't work. I put my guilt, shame, pride and fears aside and got therapy and found out why i felt so helpless. I feel like a new person all over again. Please Find someone to talk to before its too late.
