Great reminder that college is an *investment*

Every student should sit down & make sure the degree will pay off!

A friendly reminder that life is not just about making the most money posible, there are plenty of depressed people with business degrees working in boring corporate jobs. If you are really good in your field you can make a life out of it, doesnt matter if the stats are not great. I'm curious how a ranking about job satisfaction would look

Just graduated with a criminology degree 👀. I recieved a well paying job one week after my final exams and have lots of opportunities for advancement because of my knowledge in Indigenous Studies. I'm not sure if I'm defying the stats, but just a reminder to take his ratings with a grain of salt.

I graduated with a Criminology & Justice Bachelors from the Australian College of Applied Psychology (ACAP), and although it is not enough to gain a steady career in the field, it was a noteworthy stepping stone to my Honours degree of International Relations & Political Science. Subsequently, I was able to go on and to my PHD in Philosophy (Government & International Relations). So, don't look at the degree on a singular level, rather, as a sub-set of layers to achieve the final resolve.

Can you do a breakdown between the 50 most popular majors between men and women? I’m curious how they differ and what remains popular.

My reasoning behind why Math is S tier:

I switched my major several times throughout college (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Genetics, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Data Science, and then settled on Math). I was hesitant on majoring in math because it was very abstract and wanted something more practical, but my interests were ultimately in math and that led me to declare it.

Since I've started learning higher-level math courses it has made all my other courses easy. Dealing with proofs and having that ability to problem solve and think abstractly has helped me in other areas that are more practical. Looking back at my Computer Science, Chemistry, and Biology courses, they seem so easy now after dealing with math (even though I struggled with them when I started). Math also helped to make me smarter overall.

In general, I feel even though it is very theoretical, companies will still hire math majors for their ability to problem-solve. Math majors also score some of the highest scores on the GRE, MCAT, LSAT, etc, and tend to have the second-highest IQ of any major behind Physics (I am an exception to the high IQ). But great video; pretty much all facts.

Job satisfaction really depends on individual. What satisfies you may not satisfy someone else. Plus if u have a business mindset you can make it through anything.

I think one of the most important things you can do for yourself as you’re entering college and deciding on what to major in, is to ask people who work in the field of whatever you’re interested in what you really need to get a job there. People confuse college with learning, yes you learn in college, but you also can and hopefully do learn outside of college. You don’t have to go into debt to get a degree in a field that doesn’t require a degree to succeed. Information and knowledge aren’t locked behind a paywall, it’s free and available to you if you look for it.

I don’t like calling it a backup plan, because it’s not something to fall back on more than it is something that can support your true passions or interests, or a family, or you and your significant other, etc. For example it’s really hard to pursue art when you’re living paycheck to paycheck. Make sure that you can survive before you seek to thrive (I.e. stable income and being financially healthy).

Shane has really done some work here. Gotta give credit to him for the effort! Keep it up and I can see you reaching 1M subs or more someday.

I feel like Marketing would actually make it to S tier if they taught skills relevant to the job market. Most businesses are going digital now. Things like SEO, Data Analytics as well as other essentials people rarely know about for example writing good copy are the most important skills in 2021. They are everywhere! Marketing produces the most flexible employees for the future, as a result it ranks very well. If only universities updated their curricular and increased their emphasis on digital learning, we marketers would make it so S Tier along with engineers and computer scientists. Digital Marketing is now more important than ever!

I’m a PhD student in Industrial Organizational Psychology and I did my bachelors in psychology. I agree that if someone has a plan it can be a good major but honestly if you just want a filler major get a business degree.

Glad to see that my Accounting Degree is an S tier and I’ve made a great decision 🙂

Regarding marketing, I’d agree that it’s a bit saturated now. However, if you can combine marketing expertise with some technical background, you’ll be a hotshot in the age of digital.
