A piece created by the Mexican composer Arturo Marquez, inspired in the traditional dance Danzón.

I don't listen to a lot of contemporary classical music, so I've never heard of Marquez before. But, I was curious and I was not disappointed. It's a good piece.

This is my brother Arturo Marquez's composition. We lived on Fickwirth Ave in La Puente California in the '60's. Its played arounnd the world and is actually the most played by symphonic orchestras today. Imagine he had a piano in our bedroom when we were young, 6am practice payed off big time.

Thanks for your reaction! This is one of the best performances of this particular piece. I heard almost one a day for the past few weeks...piano solo versions, duet pianos, stings, sax orchestras, guitar ensembles, Polish, from Singapore, Wisconsin, you name it. Greetings from Mexico City!

Gustavo Dudamel makes a great work of art with every composition he conducts, especially with the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra. The vast no majority of musicians have been known for almost 2 decades with Gustavo because they began studying music at a very young age and are very good friends. As Gustavo has said many times: they are like a big family. That is the big difference with other orchestras.

I just never truly understood the importance of
a conductor until I saw and heard this performance. He's definitely the one instrument I focused my attention on. Regarding your question, I went from pastoral scenes, through the industrial revolution and even the digital age even if it was only in it's infancy. Truly, a marvelous piece!!

if you pay a little attention you can note all musicians are really young the oldest had 26 years old, this is the Simon Boliver youth orchestra, and it is part of the SISTEMA, an organization who rescue childrens from poor places giving them instruments and making them learn music an give them the oportunity to be a part of an orchestra, there's arround 300 orchestras in Venezuela thanks to this organization .
