Crew members are not YOUR SLAVES for the week. They are employees of the cruise line, and they are people. Treat them with respect. It will make for a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

These are not unwritten rules for cruises. These are golden rules for life. It's called being polite and having manners. A comportment folks should be raised and reared with since childhood.

Adults you take a vacation WITH your children, don’t take a vacation FROM your children. This happens all too often, especially later in the week when parents start to feel comfortable with the surroundings.

Here's one..."Don't let your children run around the ship unsupervised"! When kids are without adult supervision, they tend to come out of their shells and act as if they can do what ever they like with little respect for the adults that paid to be onboard. It is also unsafe.

Turn off the balcony light when you go to bed (don't leave it on all night). Some of them DO shine into other staterooms!

We have given our steward a tip and a shirt from our state. We saw him the last day. He said he’d worn it to play basketball earlier that morning and everybody, including his brother who also worked in the ship asked where he got it. We were happy!

Don't reserve deck chairs unless you are actually on the pool deck. You can save them for swimming, trips to the bar, bathroom, etc. If you leave the deck, take your stuff.

You struck a nerve. My biggest pet peeve is people who barge on elevators before the people on the elevator have a chance to step off.

All these manners and etiquette are basic and needn't be restricted to a cruise - they should be practised everywhere.

While I get the "don't jump the line" at the buffet rule, there should also be "don't BLOCK the line" at the buffet. If I jump the line, it's because someone is blocking it.

The buffet rule depends on the cruise line. DCL splits up the one long buffet into smaller 6ft wide stations, and your suppose to have sperate lines for each station. Treating it like one big buffet slows it down for everyone. The start of each station has the plates.

Tip: the contents of each station are also found distributed across the others.

Keeping the serving utensils where they belong is a pretty big deal. If you use the same tongs to pick up a couple (or three) desserts, and transfer, for example, peanuts to where they don't belong, you can literally kill someone. Okay, probably has never happened, but you can sure ruin the heck out of someone's day or weekend if they are allergic.

As an adult if you don't already have respect for your fellow cruisers, you most likely never will.

All tips are spot on! Also keep your voice down in the hallway when returning to your room late at night after drinking,

What people don't usually think about is that when you use tongs, ladles or whatever, thousands of people have touched those too. So when you start eating, USE UTENSILS. Using your hands just means that you've just licked thousands of other people's hands that touched those tongs.

It seems like on any excursion, there is always that one person or couple that you're always waiting for them.

Tipping is included in fares booked in Australia. Tipping just isn’t part of our culture so having it in the fare makes it much easier - otherwise we would probably forget.

Here's another.
Don't try to open the door between connecting staterooms if the people in the other stateroom are not part of your traveling party.

Crewmembers have a name tag on them. Use it, they are not hey you! This will show your respect for them and their job.
