They are both vintage rangefinder cameras and they have many similar features. This video is to make a comparison for them. Wish it to be helpful.

Thanks for the video, I found a canon P without shutter wrinkles for a great deal and am really happy with it. Surprised by how solid it is!

Very good video! I was originally going to buy an M2, but because of the ridiculous prices Leica's are going for on eBay, i bought a Canon P painted black. I think i made the right decision, especially when you consider the price.

Actually, the Canon shutter release sounded slightly quieter in this video.

Hi good review … but you just forgot one detail : you can have the Canon P with a very good Canon 50mm f1.4 or f1.8 for less than half the price of the M2 body only… this may be a big argument for the canon. Leica is a beautiful object to own but expensive, fat, not so easy to use (loading… ) and it needs to be regularly and expensively repaired/adjusted…

I had a Leica M2R. It was a fantastic beautifully made camera 📷. The film 🎞 loading system had no spool that you had to remove to attach the film 🎞 to. It had three prongs that closed on the film 🎞 when the bottom door was attached to the camera 📷. An absolutely beautiful machine.

I just got the canon p with the aluminum 50mm 1.8 and the voigtlander 35mm 2.5 ltm color skopar. Honestly the canon is way easier to use than the Leica (had the m3 and m5). I prefer the lines on the canon also and the fact I can use both canon and voigtlander ltm lenses on it. I prefer the rounded corner edges of the Leica but with the canon leather case it becomes rounded haha. The canon is the better deal. I do use Leica M 262 for digital though.

Hey, nice video! I just got a Canon P, do you know if there is a way to modify the Canon P, so that I can use collapsible lenses without hitting the light baffles inside the camera?

Hello Mr. Chen, Very nice comparison, and I would like if you could do a "Street comparison" (When you are walking on the streets and photographing with both Canon and Leica) rewiev of the two cameras, because it is mainly the purpose for both of them.
Regards. Jens

Canon LTM lenses are really just as good (if not better) than many Leica lenses of the same period and far more reasonably priced, which is why many Leica users mount Canon lenses on their M cameras.

The comparison of viewfinder and frameline brightness fails to inform that like the Leica, other versions of the Canon have more clear framelines where one or two sets appear at one time rather than all frames at once in the P. The P was introduced by Canon as an economy model, stripped of some features and sold at a lower price, so on that point, the P is not the best Canon model to compare to the Leica on a feature by feature basis. Canon's biggest saving in the P was a much simpler optical system for the viewfinder. That said, the Leica M-series finders overall are more clear if not as large as the Canon finders.
