MMP - or mixed-member proportional - is the system we use in Aotearoa to choose the people and parties who represent us in Parliament. Under MMP you get two votes every general election. Let’s have a look at how they work.

What happens if everyone votes for the bananas party in the electorate vote but also vote for pear party in the party vote? The banana party wins 100% of the electorate seats but pear party wins 100% of the party vote. What happens then?

What happens with the party votes of a particular party that did not reach the 5% threshold and no electorate seat?
