2020 Mazda CX-30 review | Small SUV test

Our first impressions of the 2020 Mazda CX-30 are pretty positive. It’s an excellent SUV, and one that makes a lot more sense for most buyers than a regular sedan or hatch of the same size. Pricing for Australia remains to be confirmed, but we suspect it will be priced roughly $2000 more than the equivalent Mazda 3, and if you ask us, it’s worth the money.

The plastic cladding does serve a purpose. It's good in my opinion, better then having chips and tar all over the paint near the doors

Much more practical than the Mazda 3 hatch! And the design is easier on the eye than the very challenging curves of the 3 Hatch!

I'm definitely getting this vehicle. Luv it! Only thing I hate is limited colors and no USB in rear. I have been binge watching the videos for the cx30

Mazda missed the mark with the massive, out of proportion black plastic cladding that serves no purpose, . Look closely at the CX-4, and what you won't see is an abundance of black plastic cladding, Hopefully Mazda will be quick to learn from this and fix it

Dilivered and picked up the cx30 X. Special detail said was: THE
COMPRESSED IGNITION WILL START AFTER 500KM, before that it will use the
spark plugs.

I don't like the big plastic cladding wrap!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, an option for a black grille surround instead of chrome (like the 3) would be nice.

I love the black cladding 😊 I will be collecting my Mazda CX 30 SkyActive-G 2.0L in Soul Red October 30th 2020 🥰

If only it was available with the burgundy red interior of the Mazda 3 hatch and had ventilated seats I'd be straight off the the dealer to get a change-over price. I'd have mine in the polymetal color with the G25 engine. If they made the turbo engine from the CX-5 an option, I'd take that too - that would be the return of zoom-zoom!

I can see this overtaking the normal Mazda 3 in sales when it arrives in Aus.

The plastic cladding is overdone. Way too much! This is a no. I don't know how anyone can miss this eye sore. I have a 2019 CX5 GT so I know Mazda is better than this but dam. This is gross to look at!

Your a very good reviewer. Only just found this channel...going on a binge watch now. Thanks for the excellent commentary. I wonder what the ride is like in Australia. This one will make my short list.

I'm slowly becoming less of a Mazda fan. This car leaves me feeling kinda meh. I'm on my third Mazda. Having owned a '97 Protege, '03 Protege5 and currently a '15 3 hatch, my favorite was the sportwagon. I wish Mazda would bring something back like that.

Black plastics around the wheel are too thick

I have paid a deposit for a 2.5 AWD auto in Machine Grey G25 Evolve equivalent spec. (No leather seats as I don't like them)
I was quoted $37, 140 for it so you are spot on with your price estimate. Arriving by Jan 31st.
The salesperson did say it might change a bit, even be a bit cheaper. Of course we will not know the exact specs until the brochures come out but he seemed pretty sure about the quote and I have noticed that in the UK the spec levels are almost exactly the same between the 3 and the CX-30 so I imagine it will be the same here.

Design is good but just the plastic. I dont know if it was to be a style or prevent rust.

AAhh, all that generous high grade plastic sheeting makes that car look so sophisticated and upmarket. Puke!
