i'm sick of ppl saying this is cheating and that i need to learn to do it by hand. Why? this is accurate and repeatable.

This guide is probably the best honing guide that has EVER been made . When I was younger I could sharpen ANY blade by hand down to even a 1/16 th . Now I am old and shaky I use this guide . you can set the primary AND secondary bevels and the guide is 100% easy and repeatable.

Bought this honing guide yesterday from Axminster in Nuneaton, Uk. I was too inconsistent at sharpening blades by hand. This is a great little tool that has made my life just that little bit easier.

I own the MKII Honing Guide. That I purchased for Highland Wood working. I used it without getting the edge I wanted. This video has helped me so much. I took my #120 plane and did the sharpening with the video. I now have the edge I need. Thank you so much for these videos.

Great tutorial! Thorough and detailed with good closeups. Covered all I wanted to know aS a beginner, who just purchased the jig. Thanks!

I use the jig all the time for most of my sharpening. There are two little niggles that I made a video about some months ago, as well as some other sharpening tips.
Thanks for the video Morton.

Thank you very much for this video. I am new to woodworking and just purchased this product. I read the instructions and was a bit confused. After watching this video, I am confident that with practice, I can get a desired result, sharpening my chisels and blades.

Your video was great. Thanks!

My guess about the roller guide with the camber is that it might eliminate the slight angle to the micro bevel. Since the micro bevel adjustment raises/lowers only one side of the roller guide, a perfectly cylindrical guide would have a tendency to tilt back to rolling completely flat on the sharpening stone. You essentially have four contact points: the two corners of the blade and the two at the ends of the roller guide. The cambered guide, however, would simply shift its rolling point to whatever the new low-point is on its circumference; since the ends of the cambered guide are smaller, they wouldn't be in the way any longer to interfere and push the sharpening jig to a new "flat" angle. There are only three contact points, then: two on the corners of the blade and ONE on the roller guide. The point of the camber roller, according to Veritas, is to add a camber to a blade. However, maintaining even pressure on both corners of the blade (as you do in your video) rather than pushing down one corner or the other should prevent a camber from being added.

Do you create your secondary bevel with the notch on the "side" knob in the 3 o-clock or the 6 o-clock position?

Hi, just watched your vid and I am having the same issue with a skew blade and have to tap the chisel till it sharpens straight I'm fussy like that, I'm in the UK and not sure how Veritas can help me. Can I ask you what was their reply when you spoke to them?

Hi Morton, I am using a Veritas MK II Honing Guide to sharpen my plain blades. Where are your blades on this site. You said your blades will come soon. You used your 280" 4000" 6000" 8000.

it should be noted that when sharpening shorter blades (such as the stanley no 151) moving past the 3 o'clock cam position will actually tilt the blade back to grind on its heal... ie don't use the 6 o'clock position in order to get your micro bevel on short blades whose tips don't reach the guide stop.

Micro adjuster? You mention 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock - what are the 3 o'clock position for? Is it just 'in between'?
