Would love to hear your thoughts on the whole eSIM situation

I hate the idea of removing the mute switch. When I bought my first iPhone (4s) there have been 2 things hardwarewise immediately appreciated a lot: 1. A non proprietary Audiojack and 2. the mute switch.

My iPhone 14 Pro was rendered useless while traveling through Central America because of the only E-Sim support. My Sister’s iPhone 12 Pro with the Dual Physical and E-Sim Support is the one that put in all the work. It came through like a champ.

the only problem i have with e-sim only iphone is that about 99% of carriers give out e-sim ONLY IF YOU HAVE A 2 year contract, so if you travel from US or UK to Greece or Italy, Austria, or other parts of the world, chances are you wont be able to get an e-sim pre-paid only for your short term visit..

I switch between Apple and Android quite often. Curious how difficult it would be to do so with e-sim. I didn't upgrade to a 14 because of that.

Regarding the esim. It would be not fair for Apple to do that. I'm living in Romania and here the carriers Vodafone/Orange only give out eSim by 2 year contract. I have been on Vodafone carrier by using a pre-paid sim since i got my first phone. I'm currently paying 5 euros for my plan and the esim one is 12 euros.

They will remove the entire iPhone and give you 2 taptic engines. thats good amount of space.

I could imagine that they will shrink the battery size bc of the new 3nm chips and therefore keeping the existing or maybe improving the battery life while making space for the Taptic Engine’s

It's very odd, it's not like a sim slot takes up much space. For the end user a physical SIM is much better than a emSIM.

Was thinking of getting the 15 pro but if they remove sim card tray then I might have to reconsider tbh

I don’t think iphones need 8 GB RAM right now, what they need is software improvements, for example more customizable and more multi tasking capabilities like Android.

I was going to comment that I am fine with the iPhone ditching the Sim tray as I have been using eSim only for a couple of years now but then I realised it would not matter to me anyway because I don't have an iPhone and am not necessarily thinking of getting one...

I think they're gonna remove the sim tray because they're removing volume buttons to make the phone more waterproof if they remove the sim tray it will make more waterproof the phone

The eSIM would be a disaster. Still not that wide spread in Italy.

They could just leave the sim tray as it is and let users have the choice to go esim or not

Would this be a good year to upgrade from the iPhone 11?

You're Romanian, bro? I wish I had such a good English accent, too.

Now, why in the heck would we need 3 haptic engines? What are they trying to achieve?

What if your iphone dies because of low bat, and you have to make a call, you have an old phone but just cant take out the sim card from iphone as it has no physical sim. In such scenarios, in case of emergencies it will be difficult. Basically it is not something that will make things easier but surely will take away simple convenience and feature that can be helpful at the most needful moment

I can see why some people got scammed for the iPhone 14 pro from other countries not being able to use the phone because of the esim being so limited around the world. Especially outside the US
