“People are now scratching their heads and trying to work out how the heck water got on board.”

Italian prosecutors will investigate the Bayesian’s captain as the yacht’s manufacturer announces that the boat was ‘unsinkable’ if safety procedures were followed, says James Imam, a journalist based in Milan.

As a sailor myself the most important thing is the night watch including weather. The crew would have known a storm was approaching so passengers should have been warned with plenty of time to evacuate and save all lives. A captain should never leave his ship unless all passengers are known to be safe. The unwritten rule is ' a captain goes down with his ship' The crew would have known 7 people were unaccounted for and at least an attempt should have been made to get them out if the boat. There are big questions to be answered

Brilliant diagnosis! The ship couldn’t sink unless water came on board! Who is this ‘expert’?

Unsinkable ?
What an utterly ridiculous thing to say.
-RIP to all those poor souls.

people must stop calling their boats unsinkable. history has proven that over and over

What an expert. He blames the captain for the keel not being lifted up. Should be the contrary, keel down means max stabilty

I think the real question is . Who benefits?

Don't make any assumptions. An 'investigation' is a formal, very close look into the case. And in this case, into an absolutely horrible and sad one. The captain is innocent unless sentenced. I hope that won't happen.

Is it just me, or is calling any ship 'unsinkable' a guarantee that it will ultimately sink?

Seems everyone in the area knew there was a storm brewing except the Captain..

I think this boat had a retractable keel and if it wasnt down in that wind, it would have been easy for it to tip over

"Batten down the hatches!" isn't that the phrase everyone knows?

Your journalist said something incorrect: In case of storm the keel is supposed to be LOWERED, in order to improve stability.NOT RAISED.It is the anchor that must instead be raised.

I was under the impression that the captain is the last person to leave a sinking boat?
The crew, including the crew, were heading into the lifeboat while 7 passengers were trapped and missing?

Obviously water got on board. Thats how a ship sinks!

Can any one answer? Storm coming, so shut all openings, lower keel, pull up anchor and start engine to have manoeuvrability, alert all guests. Would this be normal, would this have enabled the yacht to survive?

When you win a lengthy and expensive court case against the government, stay away from airplanes boats motorcycles open windows etc! 😊…and crossing streets🤫

The Captain of a ship is always responsible, sadly this one did not use his skills to the best advantage. I remember how we survived the 1979 Fastnet, we had an excellent captain who led us to safery.
