Hávamál: A Brief Intro. (and why you ought to read it)

We all could use some practical wisdom, and we learn from others' mistakes down the centuries from many different cultures' wisdom literature. The unique Old Norse example of this is Hávamál, now available in a new dual-language edition with translation by Old Norse specialist Dr. Jackson Crawford.

Me to bookstore clerk: “Do you have any of Dr. Jackson Crawford’s books?”
Clerk: “Any? We Havamal!”

Yeah, I know....🙄🙄🙄

Professor Crawford barely ever gets a dislike. That's serious respect!

You are truly a wise man Jackson, I love your work and I prefer to listen to and read your work over the Icelandic versions even being an Icelander, one of the main reasons for that is that I am a tour guide here in Iceland and I focus a lot on my heritage during my tours and it makes it easier for me to translate so many things and tell the tales of the gods in english, I would greatly appreciate if you would narrate this book on audible although I will most definitely get the book as well.

The summary sort of reminds me of this verse:
"Do not be overrighteous, neither be overwise— why destroy yourself? Do not be overwicked, and do not be a fool— why die before your time? It is good to grasp the one and not let go of the other. Whoever fears God will avoid all extremes."
A lesson that neither pure villainy nor idealism will win in the end. Just discerning the right answer at that moment, staying on your toes.

What an astounding channel! I’m so happy I stumbled upon it, because I’m about to dive into the Saga world. Thank you for the superb effort. Can’t wait to learn Old Norse, have already Finnish, Swedish and German in the ’toolbox’. Kudos Mr. Crawford.

Would there be a correlation in translation of tree between this text and the text found in Galatians in the New Testament where it states that "Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree"? This is from the KJV version.
