Q angle # Quadriceps angle and Patellofemoral biomechanics

Показать описание
Detailed description of Q angle also known as quadriceps angle and its biomechanical signifiance. The neteffect of pull of quadriceps muscle and patellar tendon are analysed clinically by using this q angle. Its angle formed between line joining ASIS and MID POINT of patella with line joining MIDPOINT of patella with tibial tuberosity.
The normal value of Q angle is 10-15 degree and an alteration in Q angle shows there is increased lateral pull on patella which can lead to decrease in patellar stabilization. Some studies show that Q angle is higher in females due wider pelvis etc.
When Q angle is increased it lead on to increase in lateral pull of patella, which can lead to patellar subluxation,or dislocation. There are several abnormalities that can lead on to increase lateral forces on patella such as GENU VALGUM,IT BAND TIGHTNESS,MEDIAL FEMORAL TORSION,PRONATION OF FOOT,LATERAL TIBIAL TORSION.

Hi. Very informative! I can feel pressure, stress and pain around the kneecap. it makes my knee feel weak. How can I find the real reason for a large q angle and resolve my PFPS ?

Great video. But I am confused. If there is STJ pronation then the adduction and plantar flexion of the Talus lets the tibia to internally rotate or internal rotation, which is like a medial rotation. This is the opposite of the lateral tibial torsion that you said also increases the Q angle. So, can you please explain how does pronation of the foot increase the Q angle if the tibia is internally rotating during excessive foot pronation? Thanks
