Stardate: the late 1990's! Say goodbye to an iconic toy line in the third (and final) part of our documentary series detailing the history of the Star Trek Playmates figure line.

In the wake of the “1701 scandal” (a well-intentioned set of anniversary figures that became rarer than gold pressed latinum), Playmates faced the wrath of Trekkies and collectors alike. Their solution? A last ditch attempt to market Star Trek figures and accessories with their new “Warp Factor” series.

Featuring striking new package design, and a host of fan-favourite characters, the Warp Factor series is home to some of the best loved figures in the line. But the damage had been done, and with dwindling sales (and changing pop cultural winds at the end of the 20th century) the Star Trek Playmates line was on a course for self-destruct.

Featuring original images, vintage advertisements and rare prototype images (sourced from private collectors and the darkest corners of the Delta quadrant), this documentary completes the definitive history of the greatest Star Trek Toy line in existence!

Excellent video series, learnt a lot and felt like the producers of the video respected me the collector and the company, well done.

I bought the transporter figures back when came out and a few of them still work somehow with the original batteries. Sadly, the boxes got kind of faded though.

Awesome video guys! Very informative and nostalgic! Such an awesome line of figures they really deserve so much more love and what a shame playmates didn't just carry on from where they left off.. Really missed the mark there.

Another great video! I have nearly all the figures you mentioned!. I have every figure and exclusives! Bar the redemption data separate 1701 figures sisko exclusive and the byfold borg and the amok kirk and spock box set . You mentioned Intendant kira chase figure! there are two variants with the Accessories colour' The silver being the rare one. At 11.33 in this video you show à bele figure which I have never seen or have! Was this a prototype?? The thing with these figures essentially the warp factor figures is the two comletion and the tribĺes pus the other series accessories variants, Being a completists this really annoying. Even though I have these figures there is always something people could of missed thats why I watch your video's.

Character Options with Dr Who had similiar kick back over changing scales that fans did'nt want. Unlike Playmates they course corrected and went back to the main 5inch scale.
