Is Product Placement a Way to Fund Your Movie?

You may have heard about Product Placement. This would be where a product is featured in your film. It's "placed" in the movie to give the certain product exposure.

Is this a viable option for funding your movie? The short answer (spoiler alert) is NO.

All you have to do is look at it from the side of the creator/manufacturer of the product. They are relying on eyeballs to get their product out there. And can your film guarantee eyeballs? The answer is uncertain if you don't have a wide distribution deal.

If you've signed a deal with Lionsgate and you're going to premiere in 3000+ theaters, then it's a no-brainer. You want to drive Audis in your film, I'm sure Audi would see that as a great way to promote their cars. But without that guarantee of theaters, what benefits are you bringing to the product?

I do like your videos and I am a member of Filmmaking Stuff, but I don't want to close my mind off of any avenue of legal legitimate film funding. You said it yourself in previous videos, "I have to change my mind and believe that I will get the money that I need." I know you are coming with great experience and I honor that, but I will still go after product placement no matter how many times they say no. I will go after any legal legitimate money for my films. But I seriously thank you for your great advice and leadership and wisdom. I will continue to use your tried and true methods to get funding for my films. Thank you for all that you do for us.
