MOON DUO - IN THE SUN - LIVE AT LEVITATION

The Reverberation Appreciation Society are proud to welcome American psych explorers Moon Duo with the Sixth vinyl release in the Live at LEVITATION series. The release showcases two of the bands appearances at the festival with Side A capturing their set in 2012 and Side B their 2014 performance.

“Playing LEVITATION (or Austin Psych Fest in its early incarnations) was always an oasis in the schedule of any tour - it really felt like a community, and we knew we would see old friends, maybe meet some new ones, and we're sure to catch some unforgettable performances. Those gatherings had a way of bringing out the best in any band, and they certainly did in us, so it means a lot to us to have these recordings emerge from the haze of the past. They capture our live set at a kind of evolutionary crux, as we grew from the original duo into the three-piece we remain today, and they bring back vivid moments from a beloved scene that we are grateful to have been part of.” - Sanae Yamada (Moon Duo)

These recordings capture Moon Duo as they rose to prominence as one of the defining creative forces of the psychedelic rock scene, with Sanae at the helm of their signature cosmic synth boogie + mind melting guitar work from Ripley Johnson. Side A showcases the band in its original incarnation, at Austin Psych Fest 2012, the band rose as a powerful two piece filling a sonic space with a pulsating and driving wall of sound. Side B shows the bands 2014 return and growth, now as a trio joined by John Jeffrey, live drums mix’d perfectly with their distorted synth sound creating a propulsion unlike any other and very distinctly Moon Duo. Working closely with the band to ensure an authentic listening experience, this show has been mixed and mastered for vinyl.

LEVITATION and the LIVE AT LEVITATION Vinyl Series

The first Austin Psych Fest was held in March 2008, and expanded to a 3 day event the following year. The event quickly developed into an international destination for psychedelic rock fans, with lineups spanning the fringes of indie rock, from up-and-comers to vintage legends, and capped off with headline performances from co-founders The Black Angels, along with Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Thee Oh Sees (in various forms) and many more. LEVITATION helped spark a movement, inspiring the creation of similar events across the globe and a burgeoning psych scene that would soon ignite. The series captures key moments in psychedelic rock history, and live music in Austin, Texas, pressed on beautiful limited edition colorful vinyl pressings - each an eye popping visual representation of the music contained within.

The artists and sets showcased on Live at LEVITATION have been chosen from over a decade of recordings at the world-renowned event, and document key artists in the scene performing for a crowd of their peers and fans who gather at LEVITATION annually from all over the world.

the guy on the t-shirt is, or was, baris manco. he was one of the first and most influential folk rock/psychedelic rock artists in the 60s and 70s in turkey and a well beloved public figure in general. I grew up listening to him when I was a small kid and his death was the first type of "loss" I felt, I was less than 10 years old. seeing his portrait on a shirt by an american band that I've been listening to since the killing time EP in 2009, nearly 30 years later, really is touching. made my day.

and now a picture from this gig with baris manco on the shirt will be the cover for the upcoming moon duo live levitation session lp. crazy :)
