I have 20k miles on my 2023 GS1250R in 9 months, love it man go for it. Lots of the GSA features already baked into it like the adjustable brake height, two peg sizes included, windscreen lowers, etc.

I say do it! You’re at the dealership where I bought my new 1200GS back in 2010. Now, 100, 000 miles later the bike remains trouble free. I’m in Oregon and will be departing for the Desert Adventure Rally in Bisbee AZ next month. You only live once.

YES...because someone has to put it thru its paces and that is you.

Adventure bikes are awesome. They corner like crazy and have plenty of power. I rented a 1200 GS several years ago in Europe and it was great.

Buy Once, Cry Once. I have the Triumph Tiger 900 RP and love it. A lot of guys say how expensive it was but it also comes with a lot of nice options from the factory that I didn't have to install.

Have owned my GS 1300 Trophy for a month and its amazing, I do 50/50 road /dirt, the bike is simply amazing, last week i was riding 2.5 hours off road, in Enduro Pro mode, then stopped for lunch and criused home on blacktop in absolute comfort, in road mode, the bike is a swiss army knife and adaptable to most conditions.

Some will say The Africa Twin is better, others may say the KTM is better, these are all good bikes Put a GS1300 in the hands of a top BMW rider/ instructor and it can go virually anywhere in the right hands
as will the other brands, but we are not all Dakar champions😂, so whatever brand puts a smile on your face each time you ride it, is the bike for you!

I'm a BMW motorcycle certified mechanic and I'd never buy one of their bikes. You can't even change the brakes or oil on these yourself. There's no way around bringing them in to the shop for almost everything. And not just any shop, it has to be a BMW dealership where they can use their proprietary computers to interface with the bikes.

That said, absolutely brilliant engineering and incredible machines. But literally the last bike a prepper should be considering.

Mike shoulda mentioned the servicing aspects of these bikes. What’s cost of routine maintenance & can you do it in your garage?

The ongoing drive shaft problems are a bit concerning. I just learned that BMW's solution for my R1250 GS and now the R1300 GS is to make the drive shaft a disposable maintenance item.

Love my gs310 soon to be kitted out with rally raid suspension upgrades and spoked wheels.

I agree, sat on one last week…very nice. I bought a 2023 R1250GS Adventure. My thought process…out for years, fantastic aftermarket support. R1300GS adventure at least a year out, support will come over time.

I got to see one in person at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham back in October. Pictures don’t do the bike justice, it’s much better in real life. I’m glad to see them hitting the States. I hope you get one!

Hey Mike, I was at that dealer today and saw your bike. Congrats! Great choice.

It's definitely competent and will do everything you need it to. The real choke point comes in the price tag which is pretty salty. The quick shift setup is almost 3k alone, and for some can be a bit tough to justify but it does work exceptionally well.

If you're going to be more blacktop than dirt, sure buy the BMW. if you're going to be more dirt than blacktop, tight trails, etc. buy the Husqvarna Norden 900 or the KTM ADV 1290
