Sony Announces PlayStation 30th Anniversary PS5 Systems & Controllers

It is hard to believe but The Sony PlayStation 5 brand turns 30 years old this year! There have been so many amazing games and journeys along the way, from Crash Bandicoot, Gran Turismo, and even my favorite lombax and reject robot Ratchet & Clank. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, Sony has announced limited edition PlayStation consoles, controllers, and accessories. Let's take a look at what they've announced.

PlayStation 5 Pro and PlayStation 5 Slim 30th Anniversary Editions:
The PS5 and the PS5 Pro get all new face and back plates with the 30th anniversary editions. The top of the consoles feature the 30th anniversary logo along with the PlayStation logo as well. Since both the PlayStation 5 Slim and PlayStation 5 Pro are available with and without the Blu-ray drive they are also offering a cover for that drive that matches the rest of the case. These will be extremely limited edition units, so get them while you can!

PlayStation Portal 30th Anniversary
Much like the main system, the PlayStation Portal also is getting a 30th anniversary livery. To me this makes very little sense as the PlayStation Portal has not been very successful and it's not that drastic of a look change from the original. You get the colored face buttons on the right side and some additional graphics on the left side but other than that it's the same system. Granted so are the other units here, just different colors, but this one doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

30th Anniversary DualSense and DualSense Edge Controllers:
Looking like an updated version of the original PlayStation controller, the DualSense and DualSense Edge both get the 30th Anniversary treatment. One of the cool things Is they also added touches of the 30th Anniversary Logo and treatment to the case that the DualSense Edge include as well.

30th Anniversary Charging Dock
Okay, the other ones kind of makes sense, but a charging dock for the 30th anniversary? I'm not the biggest fan of Sony's charging dock as it is so for me this is kind of overblown and overdone. This is a hard pass for me.

I have to admit I think the systems look fantastic, and if I was in a better spot financially I would seriously consider going for one of the 30th anniversary edition systems. Unfortunately for me at this time I'm going to have to pass, but that means you may get one. Is this something you would consider picking up? What do you think of the 30th anniversary treatment?
