Thermite Spheres: Reaction of Iron Oxide with Aluminum

preview_player
Показать описание
Two rusty iron spheres (about the size of a softball), one covered in aluminum foil, are banged together. This caused the rust (Fe2O3) and the aluminum (Al) to react (essentially a thermite reaction).

Fe2O3 + Al yields Fe + Al2O3

Sparks are created when the reaction takes place.

The video shows the thermite reaction taking place in light, dark, and then in slow motion.

Would it work if one sphere is pure aluminum?
