Do bunnies need to take baths? 🐰🛁

We get asked every day do bunnies need to take baths? As the owner of two bunnies, I've never given them baths. I've clean their scent glands every couple of months and sanitary trims. That's about it for cleaning. Bunnies can be litter box train, and they handle the cleaning every day themselves. We don't need to bathe them.

We get asked many times a day "How do you wash a bunny?" The simple answer is no, you don't wash a bunny. There are exceptions, some bunnies might need to be clean by humans due to medical reasons.

I do use a damp paper towel (warm water) to spot clean them in the sanitary area when needed, then immediately gently pat dry them.

If your bunny smells bad, have your vet check their teeth! They might have some infected spots (and spread that smell all over their fur when cleaning themselves). Source: I'm the owner of one old and smelly bun.
