The dodecahedron, although found near military sites, was not used to make bow strings. It was also most commonly found in the northern most parts of the empire. It was used for knitting a pair of winter gloves. Theirs a video out that shows a pair being knitted with one.

I am purely guessing, maybe the dodecahedron may have had a ball or wood or clay in the middle. Something that could be free float once placed in water, like a globe of some kind. Like a form a of compass. The bigger holes could be used to a to view the globe in the center. The globe could have a counter weight of some sort. It would make sense it was found on a lot of ships. A Wood globe would be able to free float if put with the right amount of water. Or it could be a form of a fidget toy with the ball in the center, like a magic 8 ball. 😆

Instead of maybe possibly someone invented it from a Lost Civilization and it made its way around the world because of trade! That's just one of many ridiculous things that that close-minded people refuse to accept
