The Kinks were an English rock band formed in London in 1963 by brothers Ray and Dave Davies. They are regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. The Kinks' music drew from a wide range of influences, including American R&B and rock and roll initially and later adopting British music hall, folk, and country. The band gained a reputation for reflecting English culture and lifestyle, fuelled by Ray Davies' wittily observational writing style. The Kinks and the songs of Ray Davies are now rightfully established as a great British institution. From the opening riff of You Really Got Me, The Kinks’ influence as pioneers in heavy metal, power pop, conceptual albums, and theatrical shows can be detected in much modern music.

This, and much more, can be seen on this YouTube channel exclusively devoted to these true British originals.

This song sounds 60, 70, 80 and 90 at the same time.

This album is a brilliant balance of overtly upbeat and happy songs with a nostalgic, almost melancholy subtext.

One of the most influential albums ever, here you can find the roots of alternative, grunge and britpop of the late 80s and early 90s

I’m here because I love The Kinks. The most underrated band part of the British Invasion Ray Davies was/is such a musician and songwriter along with his brother Dave Davies. Without the enormously musically talent of the Davies brothers there would’ve never been no Kinks <3 <3 <3 <3

I don't know what Umbrella Academy is. But, I'm happy they are putting people on to The Kinks.

I will never be able to thank my dad enough for not only sharing his love of music but for The Kinks in particular. Love this so much.

I was so happy when I heard this song in Umbrella Academy. The Kinks have been one of my favourite bands for a while and I've always felt they're so underated. Glad they're getting some of the attention they deserve! For the new people here from Umbrella Academy, Sunny Afternoon, Strangers, and Waterloo Sunset are some of my personal favourites (They have many other good songs too).

My grandparents had a homewares shop at which I would work over summers as a kid. Old people would often come in and ask for picture hooks and I would be off and singing "picture hooks, a picture of your mother ..." for the rest of the day. Things you remember.

I always thought The Kinks were a very underappreciated great group. They've had alot of great songs over the years, from the original "British Invasion", up to the present day.
