the magnets are just for you to clip it on to your clothes. it uses a specific nfc code for every individual phone, kind of like how one car key can't work with every identical model

They aren't ripping people off, those two extra cores cost money, building in the US costs money, and all the necessary bits to customize them cost money.

Just out of curiosity if i design a phone with moto maker with a contract will the phone i currently use be deactivated or will i be able to activate the moto x when i recieve it and still use my current phone for the time until i recieve it. Its pretty important that i can use my phone so im just curious

I don't know where you read that but I don't believe it for a second. Yeah yeah the CPU and the screen. Believe it or not there's more to the cost of a phone than the display and CPU, and when you consider ALL of the factors(not just the ones you're interested in) it makes sense for the MotoX to cost just as much as other flagships.
By the way none of that is actually relevant, because it dawned on me that carriers determine the selling price of the phone, not the OEMs...
