ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions. ABOUT US Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

The yogic path of silencing the mind is what worked for me. Only silencing the mind is not something you can do. It slows down on its own, like a spinning top eventually comes to rest.

I have no idea why, but this teaching is so beautiful that it has brought tears to my eyes. I guess when the heart hears Truth it knows without question and my tears are an expression of That! Such beauty! 🥲 💮

Incredible description of the mind - as in the little child watching a movie and images flickering across the screen, where the screen can't be seen or realised until the movie is turned off and only then is the nature of the screen is seen. I've never heard this before, but I found this description incredible!

I needed this talk Swamiji 🙏🏻❤️‍🔥 when I was a young boy, i experienced the death of a brother. One day while I was crying, I was suddenly torn down the middle by what I'm guessing now was the Kundalini within starting to move. Then I was overcome by "the holy spirit" (raised Christian) which was this feeling of pure bliss and I knew that to be my real Self.

I wouldn't say my mind stopped - but my perspective shifted completely. I understood that I was actually the observer of this imagined person who happened to be suffering. I literally saw myself in the room, and the room itself, and I was all of it. I used to be able to slip in and out of this state at will. Was this technically sabija samadhi?

In my experience as a mediator mind is certainly not an obstacle but in meditation I become more conscious of the mind. After a point it evolves into a process where one is awake outside and asleep inside. When in sleep it's the reverse.🙏

We knew this in the UK during the second world war, which is why we were told: Keep calm and carry on.

I am from India. All my teen years I was an atheist. It’s only recently that by the grace of god and the grace of sri ramakrishna that I’ve been able to walk on the path of Dharma. Ever since I’ve started learning about sanatana dharma, my heart gets overwhelmed thinking about how much ignorant people attack/ say bad things about it. I only feel bad for them. In youth today there is a lot of materialism which is why there are so much mental health issues.

Sometimes I have difficulty in accepting that there are several ways to reach the same truth. I don’t get how atheism or agnosticism or charvaka philosophy could lead someone towards the truth. I hope I’m able to find the answer.
