We now realize that we ran the wrong flag up the flagpole in this episode. Twice near the start (:17 seconds and :27 second in to be precise) we displayed the Union Flag, which as you know represents the union of Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and England. However we were talking about just England, and so it should have been the flag of St George. We're sorry about the mixup and we'll look out for this in the future.

Richard I "Lionheart" - Joined the crusades, got captured on his way back and died when he returned.
Richard II - Got himself deposed instantly.
Richard III - Usurped the throne and got killed in battle in less than 2 years.

*Each king named Richard has lost the throne faster than the Richard before him*

4:00 I asked my prison guards to release this captain, but he wouldn't stop strangling my guards.
Those are some impressive hands to strangle armored knights.

The Good Parliament; one of the few historical examples of The English Parliament being good.

Fun fact about Henry Bolingbroke: in 1390 he went with a small army to do some crusading alongside the Teutonic Knights against the last pagans in Europe - the Lithuanians, even besieging the capital city of Vilnius. This kind of weird tourism was actually quite popular among Western nobles for some time, king John of Bohemia whom you might remember from episode 2 also took such trips. There was a small issue though, four years earlier Grand Duke of Lithuania Jogaila was baptized and also became king of Poland as Władysław Jagiełło, uniting both realms in a personal union and beginning a program of much less violent Christianization of his Lithuanian subjects. But why let such details get in the way of a good crusade?

Battle of Pontvallain. Kind of important for this period.

Edward 3rd was a chivalry nerd,
Began the Hundred Years War,
Then Richard 2 was king, aged ten,
Then Henry, yes one more!
Henry Four, plots galore!
Not least from Henry Five. Why?
Killed ten score at Agincourt!
Then Henry 6 arrived!

Thinking of Terry Gilliam’s Medieval Life, where he counterargues, Richard II was actually a good king (at least compared to “the good king” Richard the Lionheart, in that he was the one who successfully stopped the peasants rioting by appealing to them as their king. So the common people were fine with him, but ultimately his downfall was he wasn’t popular with the powerful nobles, and what we mostly know of Richard II is painted by that.

This series is so well done! I absolutely love the tone, style and even the little animations that are seen. It’s like I could actually vision myself there (despite the fact that I’ve never been to Europe or England. Although I do have German blood... possibly Luther blood)

I’d also love to see you do history over the glorious age of steam. From Locomotives, to the economic boom that steam gave to England. Although I do love seeing some very special locos. They are really something.

Keep up the great work! Can’t wait to see the next great history video!

So...the Hundred Year's War consists of two stages, one by Edward III and one by Henry V. Interesting fact.
