Hey man! I'm a jazz vibraphonist and I just got a pickup system and have been deep diving in the world of guitar player youtube and pedal bro universe haha. Anyway all to say, this video really helped me out! My friend gave me his old DL4 and with no manual or road map I was just a little puzzled how to use the buttons for looping etc... but I found your reflections on Mary Halverson and your advice to guitarists etc to be really valuable to me as well. The mindset of purity of tone in jazz guitar is for sure a thing, and in the vibraphone world it's even more so. Partially because even running your axe through one pedal takes a massive amount of time and money and it's a huge pain in the ass lol. But yeah folks like Frisell, Scofield, Kurt, etc... are brilliant guitarists and can make an acoustic guitar sound amazing with nothing on it for sure, but they also process their signals quite a bit and it's not an insignificant part of their tone as you mentioned.

Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say thanks! Keep on keepin on.

The Mary Halvorsen bit was the nicest surprise, she uses the DL4 & wah in the most creatively interesting way and I adore her work

As a guitarist, I would say "whatever works for you and inspire/motivates you to play". In the guitar world, there's a quest attached to it, the quest for your sound. Every guitar sounds different, every amp sounds different, and the pedal everyone mocks upon, might be the right one for you.
If you're listening to what others say, you'll never do anything! It was an informative video, curiously, the DL-4 found it's way into most 'jazz' guitarists 'pedalboard' at one point or the other, probably thanks to guitarists like Bill Frisell or even Pat Matheney, who are both explorers.
Take care!
ps in Music and sound, there's no right or wrong, as I said, whatever works for you!

Hey, beautiful stuff - I notice you’re using the Dunlop volume/expression pedal - can you use it as a volume pedal as well or do you have to alternate settings? Thanks 🙏

I had one of those and never used it to its full potential.

Bonjour,
Super cette démo merci ..
Pour ma part j’ai un problème avec son branchement avec d’autres pédales.. Elle me fait des différences de son/ volume, une fois l’effet arrêtée.. pourriez-vous me donner une info sur ce point svp

Sounds cool. What's the difference between the line 6 mm 4 and the line 6 DL for?
