Drawing Honest Abe (Abraham Lincoln) With Copic Markers - Happy Presidents' Day

Happy Presidents' Day! A few days ago, I was waiting in the car line to pick my son up from school, and I was looking for inspiration on what to draw in my sketchbook while I waited. I knew that Presidents' Day was coming soon, so I decided to look for photos of Abraham Lincoln. Once my initial sketch was complete in my sketchbook, I knew that I wanted to make it into a final drawing.

I contemplated whether to make the final drawing with just graphite or charcoal and go for a more traditional portrait drawing, or whether instead to use my Copic Sketch markers to get a much more graphic feel. My reference photo was black-and-white, but in the end I decided that adding color to make it pop would really be a new and fresh way to look at President Lincoln. So I got out my nice marker paper and redrew the picture.
