Should I Get Reality-XP GNS530 For My Home Flight Simulator?

To be clear, in no way am I saying the stock GPS software is bad, I think it's solid software and glad to have used it, it was a really great start.

However, when you use the sim to build muscle memory and use the GPS in a way you would use it in the real life aircraft, you will be doing yourself a disservice by not getting the reality-xp version of this software.

You do not want to build bad habits if you are training for instruments, commercial, or even private.

The Reality-XP pack, which is pretty fairly priced, imo, will give you TAWS, TCAD, Flight Plan imports and exports, and a much more real to life use.

If you want your sim habits to carry over to the real life cockpit of ANY aircraft you fly, I definitely suggest snagging this.

Previously, when I was using Windows 8.1, I had the ability to update my "worlwide" file for the year 2020 instead of using the one provided by Reality XP from 2016. It worked without any issues. However, after installing Windows 10, I encountered difficulties. The file refuses to install, and I tried following several tutorials on YouTube to update my file and install it in the "db" folder, but to no avail. Has the producer of Reality XP blocked access to updating my "worlwide" file for the year 2020 instead of the one from 2016? Thank you from Algeria !!

Hey, thanks for the review and for the awesome simulator setup you have! I just purchased the latest and greatest version of the Reality XP for 530 and 430 but seem to be having trouble making it show up on the x plane 12 default C172. The original 530 is there, but the Reality XP version only shows up as a separate window. I also have a FlightSimBuilder physical Garmin 530 panel which works great with the "default" G 530 in the C172, but I can't seem to get the Reality XP version to be the one that's in the plane. Does the manual that comes with the Reality XP have a section that helps with that, or can you point me in a clearer direction? Thanks in advance!

Have you had any issues with the waypoint database being out of date using the sim?

I fly the actual 430 and 530 all the time. The Xplane 530 and 430 leave out a few features but for the most part they are there, and work perfectly for flying approaches, which is the main reason for me using a simulator. You do not need traffic and ground proximity warnings. One of the main missing features on the Reality instrument is nearest airports. That is vital on a single pilot missed approach as you only have to punch "direct to" on the nearby airport of choice and call up procedures. I have many years of experience training Instrument pilots. I was very disappointed with this POC.

I was thinking of trying the Reality-XP software, but, like others, got hesitant when I was getting Trojan Horse Virus warnings. Anyway, I currently have the GNS 530 panel from FlightSimBuilder and it works great, especially with the upgraded software in MSFS 2020. I've been pretty much using X-Plane now for my real-world IFR training, and it's pretty sad when the base 530 software is so back-level. I am curious if the Reality-XP will function the same way with my panel from FlightSimBuilder or does it work even if you don't have another panel and just using the display in the simulator.
