After some more thought, Here are some Soulful Beatles choices:
“She’s So Heavy, ’ ‘Don’t Let Me Down, ’ ‘Come Together, ’ ‘Got to Get You Into My Life.’ ‘Bathroom Window, ’ ‘Yer Blues, ’ ‘Golden Slumbers, ’ ‘Dig a Pony, ’ ‘Yer Blues.’ ‘I’ve Got a Feeling.’
Take a listen and let me know if I’m off.
Doug may say all of these songs are not soulful, just because it’s the Beatles singing them. But they were soulful enough for Otis Redding, Earth wind and fire, prince to cover them.
So there ya go.

He summarized a lot of what I feel. King's X has been the band for me, since I was very young. I always assumed everyone in the band was Beatles fanatics. Definitely Ty.

Strange how as a bass player he doesn't seem much of a fan, Lemmy's favourite bass player I seem to remember was Paul McCartney and he loved the beatles :)

As a huge Beatles and King's X fan, both of these guys need some objective music history lessons. Everyone has their own opinion and taste in music. The Beatles loved and respected many musicians, of all colors and styles. What they did with those influences has never been approached by any other artist and needs no defense. The nonsense of rivalry along lines of color is simple revisionist rubbish. Influences run far and wide and build on each other -- that's the unifying power of great music. For decades I've described KX as a cross between the Beatles and Rush.

Everybody has the right to their own opinion, but i do know Ty is a huge Beatles fan and the Beatles influence is definitely in Kings X that was one of the first things i noticed about them and liked so Dug is his own man and i respect his opinion because he is one hell of a musician but i have come to the conclusion that i never compare anybody to any body else or say one band is better than another only different and some i like more than other's and Kings X is one that i like more than a lot of other's so i don't care who any of the members of Kings X dont as far as other band i just want them to keep pumping out them bad ass tune's.

Paul McCartney is only nine years older than Dug.

If I was going to pick on a white band from the '60's for trying to sound black I would definitely target the Stones. The Beatles quickly moved past that phase but the Stone have stuck to it right up to the present day. Also funny that dUg is such a huge Sabbath fan given that there is not one single drop of Motown in anything those guys ever did. Who sounds less like James Brown or Sly Stone than Ozzy? lol

Well this is refreshing :) Paul McCartney would sing with soul, if he sang about anything. The dude would write a song about shoveling snow if it popped into his head. I think the only one who sang with some soul, was George Harrison, because he was an absolute Motown junkie. He has a great falsetto, and things like Living in the Material World (the spiritual sky section), Pure Smokey, Tired of Midnight Blue, his stuff from 1973 til about 1976, had a lot of Motown influence in it.

Beatles, King’s X, and Rush are top 3 for me, whatever the order.

So what band gave Dug his "Beatles vibes"? You left us hanging at the end there!

I like (but don't love) the Beatles and totally understand his position. The influence is clear though - even if more of it came from Jerry and Ty. Dug's more about the soul which is why King's X offers so much as a band. Name another band that possesses this type of diversity of sound and emotion... not easy IMO

Dug has a point that in the beginning, the Beatles do wanted to sound like the American Black singers and not much more, imo... but they evolved really quickly. Hard to imagine anyone else at the time putting out "helter skelter", "here, there and everywhere" and "eleanor rigby", etc

King’s X & The Beatles give me goosebumps. This was old man hating on Beatles but I give him a pass. He’s being a little dramatic about it for the interview.

I know a few other guys in dUg's age group, who share the exact same sentiments toward the Beatles... but, just to be fair, the ENTIRE British invasion was a bunch of English guys reinventing black music for the Western world. I mean, that's what it WAS lol :/

My mother hates Beetles, she’s 80 years of age. She loved Chubby Checker. She said they sound Tinny as in weak. I’m from England many people hate The Beetles here, I don’t know why you people like them over there? They were in England, and the Brits hated them at first because they sounded bad, then they went to Germany, to Hamburg, practised a ton, and then things started to take off in Germany FIRST. Then they came to England, but they were a Boy Band. Only lasted 5 years and broke up. I was born in 1970, when Hendrix died, thank God for Black Sabbath!

The Beatles will always be the greatest band Kings X though

I did not like the Beatles, until I was older. I was into Led Zeppelin, Rush, Aerosmith, Boston, Kansas, etc.
It wasn’t till I became established as a rock drummer in my 20s that I Learned to respect the Beatles.
But the Beatles progressed from a pop, edgy doo-wop type band, into a rock band, almost psychedelic in some of their stuff. The diversity in their music it’s too wide to pinpoint and label them to only their beginnings, because they progressed far beyond "I wanna Hold Your Hand."
