Here's a quick tutorial on how to create chapter markers in Premiere, and how to export and use them in an uncompressed, Quicktime format.

I was struggling to find any quick and easy tutorials on this, so I thought I'd make my own to help you guys out!

This video needs to be at the top of the search results because I spent way too long trying to figure this out and this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you

Quick tip - if you hit "M" and then hit "M" a second time, it brings up the options window without you needing to click on the marker itself.

Thanks for this valuable information. Do you know a way to do the same but for a long audio-only file? I have a very long audiobook file that I'd like to break up into chapters and I'd like Premiero to do this automatically...similarly to what Premiere does with scene detection. Thanks in advance.

Hi Katie, Love your tutorials. Easy to understand. I have a question. Being that Adobe stopped supporting their software, Encore, and I went to a new computer and lost the install disk. What is the best DVD authoring software that is easy to learn like Encore was? There is a lot out here but which one is the best. Any ideas you might have I would appreciate. Thank you in advance.

Great video on how to add markers easily. Just as you said, I watched many videos and they were all so complicated.

Thank you so much. Very easy but hard to find if you've never done it before.

Hi Katie, this was helpful. Took me a few attempts as I"M still learning the platform. Do you know if there's a way to do this but for audio only files? Without having a darkened V1? Thanks in advance!

Thank you. How do I created a segmented timeline in the video output that displays text when I hover over the segment?

Excellent tutorial. Will this work if I make a video and transfer both files, Video and Chapter markers, to a thumb drive?

This is really wonderful, thank you so very much.
Question 1:. I would need this for mp4 files (H264) in 1080 HD - but did not work. (I ask this because I cannot export as Quicktime which apparently needs a "missing Codec" that in my situation cannot be downloaded), so I use H264.
Question 2: Is there a way to make markers permanently visible in the exported videos (without clicking)? For example like the "fragmented timestamps-line" in Youtube at the bottom of the video?
Blessings to you and your cat!

Is it possible to add these markers by exporting in mp4?
And I send thanks here from Brazil

Cool. Ability to do it for .mp4 would be greeeeaat. Did a test with a 2min clip and the .MOV was 3G!!! Same using h264 for .mp4 was 240mb. Use to do this all the time for DVDs but Apple and Adobe killed that. But then they seemed to fail at making this something that could still be used in a downloaded video file. Tutorials in abundance about doing it for Youtube. Which means in Youtube. Which means living on Youtube. And believe it or not Youtube isn't always the best hosting solution. Thanks for cracking the window to a solution!

Hi Katie, thanks for this tutorial. I just tried it with the latest version of Premiere Pro but I can't get the chapters to appear on the .mov (nor .mp4) file. Any advice? Thx, Gin

Is it possible to export to MP4 and keep the chapter markers?
