32 Year Old Mazda Miata Exterior Detail! | Wash & Polishing

It's time to give this neglected MX-5 Mazda Miata a MUCH needed Exterior Detail! So today's I walk you through my DEEP CLEAN detailing process and how to restore this oxidized single stage paint! From a satisfying Foam Wash to Machine Polishing, this Miata will be GLOSSY in no time!

We've made a lot of progress on this Miata, and this exterior detail will be the cherry on top! In the previous videos, we detailed the engine bay to perfection and restored the interior to a VERY clean state. The exterior was last on my list and I was hoping we could give this the transformation it deserves. Auto detailing is one of my skill sets and I knew with a little bit of deep cleaning and polishing, we could get this Miata polished like a pearl.

We start the detail with giving the car it's first wash in YEARS (probably). A Full Foam Cannon wash with plenty of scrubbing and cleaning of the convertible soft top. The paint was treated with an all purpose cleaner and fallout remover to break down the contaminates from sitting for so long. From there the paint was washed and clayed to give it a smooth look and feel.

Now, early 90's Miata's are notorious for faded and chalky single stage paint. Machine polishing is really the BEST way to restore and make it look new again. I machine polished using Last Cut Compound with a series of pads to knock down the oxidation. From there, I used touch up paint and made my way around the car to fix any unsightly chips/scratches. The Miata was then topped off with Opti-Coat Hyper Seal which is a long term paint sealant. Overall, I think the Miata had a huge transformation!

What product did you use for the trim at the bottom of the windshield, does it stay glossy after rain? I have to keep redoing my sideskirt and windshield trim everytime it rains. The Miata looks beautiful !
