Hyperhidrosis - Starch Iodine Test

Hyperhidrosis is a condition where excess sweat production takes place, so this can be tested out by using starch and iodine, we tested this with tincture iodine, applied a layer of tincture iodine, then it was left for 10 minutes so that it can be dried out, later on a layer of starch was applied. Then candidate was given lemon juice since this was the case of Gustatory syndrome which is also known as Fry syndrome. So that the area of body can be marked where max sweat is getting produced. Such area turns blue or violet as a result of interaction of starch and iodine.

That's a neat idea to apply the powder. But why apply iodine? Can you use alcohol swabs to clean the area if that's the iodine's purpose?

The iodine is applied to form a starch iodine complex when there is excess moisture in the area (due to sweat). The formation of the complex is why the blue coloration is observed at areas of hyperhydrosis.

Hi Dr., I have hyperhidrosis. And I can tell you that it's really an uncomfortable & sometimes embarrassing condition. I have it on my face, head & trunk. I would love to have botox injections, but just can't afford them. I'm just wondering how people can afford the shots there. Is botox less expensive in India? Thanks... ~Rhonda~
