Is Hakari Black?

I've gotten HUNDREDS of comments JUST debating Hakari's race and hair, and for some reason, sometimes people use me as a discussion point? I'm just a cosplayer so my cosplay* is irrelevant to the conversation. But a lot of people have a lot of incorrect or confused ideas, so I hope this helps! Also, in terms of pronunciation: Hakari. Ha ka ri. はかり. My accent isn't perfect and I do Americanize it because I'm not going to try to pronounce "り" perfectly, but I know it's ha ka ri. not huh CAR ree. In my opinion, just because he has incorporated some forms of black culture into his design that doesn’t mean that he is black, and he is in fact fair skinned on the manga cover. Of course I get the cultural argument, but being involved in a culture does not necessarily make you a different race.

Based on the manga and anime I Think he is not black, after all we had our black character in jjk at the manga Miguel has a grey tone for his skin, while hakari dont have the same, while in the anime, Miguel is a very clear black skin and Hakari in his short appearance is kinda of yellow, so I would say that he is actually just a japanese delinquent. But I think he could get close to a brown, maybe, even tho I think he is a clear asian, anyways, as a black guy I would love if Hakari was black, but I dont think thats the case.

About hakari's hair color: he used to have purple hair in the colored panels from the start, but in the newest chapter, gege drew him on the cover page with blonde hair, which was pretty odd
My guess is that hakari might have blonde hair in the anime instead of purple and that's why he changed it, but maybe I'm weong

My friend is half Philippine half Mexican but grew up in Black cultured environment and they cant see themselves as any else but black. So I think with Hakaris case he could be Japanese, Half Japanese or not Japanese at all regardless he was heavily influenced by black culture maybe even Yakuza inspired and going by the manga yes he has purple pink dyed hair with light skin except that one panel that made him look a bit black.

Tbh Gege should have given us another character of color besides Yaga and Miguel but oh well🤷‍♀️

Still though, you did an awesome representation of his _character_ as it should be the focus on not the person background reflecting that character

Yo, great cosplay! I loved it! One Thing i’d improve in the future though is the emotions. They were almost constantly great, but hakari is almost meant to be manic when hitting the jackpot, so in the „pointing” scene, i think shaking your fingers up and down raster could lead to a much more emotional feel. Generally though, i give your cosplay, and dance, a 9.5/10. Stand proud. You cooked.

I'm guessing he's japanese, things like his old locs are quite popular for japanese teenagers at some point, they admires it. Just like rap songs and other things. His tone also isn't like Miguel, there's also that image of him in anime.

But in the end of the day cosplayers are not literally becoming the characters, but representing the characters in their own version. In other words your Hakari cosplay is amazing and it irritates me how some people just can't accept it

GeGe has changed colours in his characters. Yuju had blonde top, then changed it to Salmon. Hakari has been depicted with both Purple and Blonde hair. Even his pants were originally Gray now brown. There are also cases of Kashimo having blonde hair before the Teal. I think GeGe just messes around with colours for fun or his colourblindless is a part of it.
