Love and hope for those in need. A warm Christmas dinner served for people without homes by the nonprofit "Communities Under the Bridge."

Volunteers with Communities Under the Bridge were busy serving food for their big dinner. The group is a Christ-centered ministry serving those affected by homelessness.

“They'll have dinner, nice and hot dinner, sitting down at the table. Our favorite candied yams over ham and some homemade mac and cheese,” said Dianne Talbert, Executive Director of Communities Under the Bridge.

She says at a young age she was homeless herself.

“I know that it's very important to know that you are respected and loved by the people around you, and that's difficult for them,” Talbert said.

Talbert says over 50 volunteers spent their Christmas Day here, spreading holiday cheer to those in need. The men and women were given a warm meal and were able to go into the next room to receive a gift.

“Christmas is something special for us. For the last 13 years, we have been designing and developing a great big Christmas present for them, which has practical things like hats, gloves, scarves, food, hand warmers for the winter,” she said.

Cedric Ivey and his family were some of the many people waiting in line.

“Money is kind of tight. If I don't have enough room, then we're out here. We always stay a couple of nights at Haven for Hope and then we go back at the hotel again,” said Cedric Ivey.

He says his three daughters had gifts for Christmas, thanks to the Salvation Army Angel Tree.

“Me and their mom were talking for years about getting them a bike, since they were three years old, and I told her to just hold on it's going to come,” he said.

Toys aside, 12-Year-Old Baelyn Urban joined her mom and grandfather to volunteer for Christmas Day.

“Today is the best day, it’s Christmas, and the reason for this season is Jesus. I want to help homeless people, and let them have a wonderful day,” said Baelyn.

Baelyn’s mom, Hope Urban, did the same volunteering with her mother when she was younger.

“We did it underneath the bridge on the streets. I vividly remember as a young child passing out pizza and stuff to them. So, I'm excited to come back, bring my daughter, and to serve and give back,” said Urban.

Alot of people have a learned behavior that doesn't do well for them
Teach people to do for themselves and help the ones truly in need
It is a fine line
Kids are the ones that suffer
My dad was a drunk I learned to go to work
Been working since I was 9 I am 69 know
The only true solution is JESUS
But you end up also feeding the bums to get to the ones in need
