Is The Holy Spirit God?

Many quasi-Christian sects (e.g., Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, etc.) deny the Divinity of the Holy Spirit and argue it is found nowhere in the Bible. But is this true? Karlo Broussard explains why the answer is no by giving biblical examples that show the Holy Spirit is God.

Script:

In every family there’s always that one person that sort of gets left out. The family of the Blessed Trinity has one of those—it's the Holy Spirit.

When dealing with quasi-Christian sects, such as Jehovah’s Witnesses, many of us are equipped to defend the divinity of Jesus, but very seldom are we ready to give a reason for our belief in the divinity of the Holy Spirit.

But no more! Enough is enough. So, let’s look at the evidence.
Consider 1Corinthians 2:11 where Paul says, “no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.” How can the Spirit comprehend the infinite thoughts of God unless he’s infinite? If the Holy Spirit is omniscient, then he is equal to God.

Another example is Acts 5:1-4. Here Peter rebukes Ananias and Sapphira for lying to the Holy Spirit but then a few sentences later says they lied to God. How can lying to the Holy Spirit be the same as lying to God unless the Holy Spirit is God?

We also can look at Hebrews 10:15-17 where the text quotes God’s promise of a new covenant in Jeremiah 31:31-33 but prefaces it by saying, “The Holy Spirit also bears witness…saying.” Notice God’s words are the Holy Spirit’s words. Clearly the Bible teaches the Holy Spirit is God.

So, the Holy Spirit no longer has to be the forgotten family member when we’re evangelizing. With verses like these, we can give reason why we profess him to be the Lord and giver of life.

For Catholic Answers, I’m Karlo Broussard. Thanks for watching.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God and of His Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The Scriptures tell us that the Holy Spirit is the 'Spirit of God' (Gen. 1:2; 41:38; Ex. 31:3; 35:31; Num. 24:2; 1 Sam. 10:10; 19:20, 23; 2 Chron. 24:20; Job 27:3; Ezek. 11:24; Mat. 3:16; 12:28; etc.) or the 'Spirit of the Lord God' (Isa. 21:1) and the Spirit of Jesus Christ (Phil. 1:19; 1 Pet. 1:11), and not a separate divine being
from the Father and the Son, as it never refers to it as the 'Lord' or 'God' the Holy Spirit.

Also, in Galatians 4:6 we read, I quote,

"... God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father." (KJV)

This text begs at least two questions:

1. Is the Son [of God] holy? Answer, Yes!

2. If the Son [of God] is holy, is His Spirit holy? Answer, Yes!

Now if the Spirit of the Son of God, that is Jesus Christ, is holy, would it be fair to says, God has sent the Holy Spirit of His Son, Jesus Christ into our hearts? Absolutely!

So God [the Father] has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts and not a mysterious separate being. If we read this scripture correctly, then we realize In the Scriptures we find ONLY two divine beings, and not three: God the Father and His Son, (called in Scripture the Son of God, ) Jesus Christ. So the Holy Spirit Jesus Christ promised is Himself, His presence with us. (John 14 - 16)

There is not a single scripture that calls the Son of God, 'god the son' and the Holy Spirit, 'lord' or 'god the holy spirit'; therefore, 'god the son' and 'god the holy spirit' are false pagan gods invented by Satan himself, that is the 'trinity' through which he claims worship which belongs to God the Father and His Son ALONE.

What Paul meant is that when the HS is within you only then do you comprehend God.
He did not mean that the HS comprehended God ... because then it's not your business.
The question Paul is answering is ... how can I comprehend God? And Paul says that you don't unless the HS is within you, only then do you understand God.
So in the end it is you who is comprehending God, and the function of the HS is to link you together so that you don't see just with mortal eyes.

The Holy Spirit is simply God who is in the form of a spirit ("God is a spirit") rather than in his "normal form". We are thus absolutely talking about the same almighty God. Thus, in reality the Trinity is a Duality. The Trinity doctrine is false because illogical (even a kid can understand that Father and Son cannot have a same age) and contrary to the teachings of the gospels, (Jesus is clearly not omnipotent). I have no doubt it will die in the future. I believe that the almighty God is in a remote past "before the creation of the world" ("you loved me From there He has the power to reach us and interact with us in the form of a spirit ("God is a spirit"). God does NOT GO BEYOND that point of time (" the world has not known you") this is why nobody has ever seen Him. Jesus WAS that almighty God, this is why He still is the only one God, even without power. He is alone in heaven.

Unless The Holy Spirit is The Father Himself! No separate entity.

The trinity is a false teaching. The worship of the holy spirit is the worship of angels. The angel of God's presence is the holy spirit. According to Isa 63:9-10

Does the Catholic Church say the holy spirit is God? Answer: NO! According to the Catholic Athanasian Creed, the holy spirit is one of three persons that make up a trinitarian "one God." As the creed says: "[The Father, Son, and holy spirit] ARE ONE GOD." So, if it takes THREE PERSONS to make a single trinitarian deity, how can one of those persons be God all by himself?

But, wait. There's more! According to a number of Catholic sources, the holy spirit isn't even considered by the Bible to be a person! Consider what they say:

1. “Although this spirit is often described in personal terms, it seems quite clear that the sacred writers [of the Hebrew Scriptures] never conceived or presented this spirit as a distinct person” (Edmund Fortman, The Triune God, p. 9).

2. “Nowhere in the Old Testament do we find any clear indication of a Third Person” (The Catholic Encyclopedia, 1912, Vol. 15, p. 49).

3. “The Jews never regarded the spirit as a person; nor is there any solid evidence that any Old Testament writer held this view…The Holy Spirit is usually presented in the Synoptic gospels (Matt., Mark, Luke) and in Acts as a divine force or power” (Edmund Fortman,  The Triune God, pp. 6, 15).

4. “The Old Testament clearly does not envisage God’s spirit as a person…God’s spirit is simply God’s power. If it is sometimes represented as being distinct from God, it is because the breath of Yahweh acts exteriorly…The majority of New Testament texts reveal God’s spirit as something, not someone; this is especially seen in the parallelism between the spirit and the power of God” (New Catholic Encyclopedia, 1967, Vol. 13, pp. 574, 575).

5. “On the whole the New Testament, like the Old, speaks of the spirit as a divine energy or power” (W.E. Addis and Thomas Arnold,  A Catholic Dictionary, 1960, p. 810).

6. “The third Person was asserted at a Council of Alexandria in 362…and finally by the Council of Constantinople of 381” (A Catholic Dictionary, p. 812).

At the admission of A Catholic Dictionary, the holy spirit didn't become a person until the Councils of Alexandria and Constantinople in the years of 362 and 381 respectively.

So, since the holy spirit is not a person, but a "divine power or force, " how can it be said that the holy spirit has divinity? The video guy is as wrong as two left shoes.
