How to Use WP Grid Builder to Filter GenerateBlocks Query Loop

WP Grid Builder has been for some time now my preferred way to add filters to your WordPress site. Filtering posts of any kind by categories or custom taxonomies, adding search fields and more can all be done with WP Grid Builder facets.

In this tutorial, I show you how to get WP Grid Builder working with the GenerateBlocks Query Loop element. Out of the box, it doesn't quite work due to requiring an additional query argument, but I'll provide you the code to get it working.

Nice video! Just subscribed. I dev mainly with GeneratePress / GenerateBlocks Pro. I’ve been using FacetWP the last few years with their FacetWP Maps Google Maps API / geolocation proximity facet. Wp Grid builder looks to have a for user friendly UI.

Right now I’m looking for a multisite, cross site search solution. I haven’t found one yet. SearchWP may work. FacetWP with the proximity map feature won’t work cross site unfortunately.

Any suggestions?

I found an elastic search plugin built to work with cloudways which I just signed up for. Looking into Multitenancy WaaS as well.

Thanks for the overview. On first glance, a little overwhelming. Do you have use other code snippets often when using wpgridbuilder?

I noticed you used codebox for your snippets. Do you prefer it over the code snippets plugins? Any pro’s or con’s of either?

Similar question on wpgridbuilder vs facetwp. Trying to find something relatively lightweight that doesn’t require doing code.

On the category filter, can you specify 2 or more specific categories to limit the query to?

Man, you saved me with this video. I'm really loving your content focused on GenerateBlocks and how to use it with other powerful plugins. It's unfortunate that other plugins don't integrate with GenerateBlocks as much as with other builders. Hey Jonathan, I have a question .. actually two..if you don’t mind… I can’t seem to be able to successfully sort by terms of my custom taxonomy. How to do that properly? Do I need to enable some settings?

My second question: Should I use Meta Box Custom Table extension to store my custom post type posts in a separate table? It has 10 custom fields. It’s allegedly better from performance standpoint. But the drawback is that wpgridbuilder can’t sort by custom fields if I go with that approach.

the problem with filters here in general for me, in this plugin is that evrytime i refresh the page after i set the filters and save them (in facet ofcourse), just resets ... i cant set them at all!

I wonder if this can be adapted to work with Piotnet Grid. I purchased their LTD, and decided to go this route instead of WP Grid Builder. GeberateBlocks really needs Facets. If I could get this to work with Piotnet Grid, it would be a step in the right direction.

Hi this helped a lot it's working really nice on query loop block on page. But I have some issues with archive pages using GeneratePress elements with Loop Template, you have some tutorials about this.

Have you noticed that this solution is not working anymore with recent updates to GenerateBlocks and/or to WP Gridbuilder? I implemented your solution and it worked perfectly until recently -- now the filters don't seem to detect the query loop at all. If it's just for me, well it sucks but it's life, I'll have to figure it out. However I'm wondering if it's a more generalized issue, in which case I'd love to hear a comment from you about it. And of course, if you can spare the time, a solution to make it work. I'm willing to pay $ for the solution :)

Gridbuilder in our experience has been the absolute worst support we have ever received from any plugin or theme vendor (and we have bought many). The dev seems to do the "support" himself as well!? Words like abrupt & disinterested come to mind. The worst of the worst. We quickly moved to Piotnet. Night and day in terms of support. So friendly and attentive and a fraction of the price.
