The Life & Death of Goldenbridge Cemetery, Dublin

Goldenbridge Cemetery was the first Catholic burial ground to be authorized in Ireland since the 16th century. It opened in 1829 and was forced to close 40 years later following complaints from British officers stationed in Richmond Barracks. The story of why it opened and why it closed is compelling and consequential because of its unique place in Irish history.
Local historian and poet Liam O'Meara has published two excellent books about the cemetery and the barracks:
- 'Goldenbridge Cemetery', Glasnevin Trust; and
- 'From Richmond Barracks to Keogh Square', Riposte Books.
