For those coming back to the game since it's free on PSN, this method still works except you can make it a LOT less tedious:

*Step 1:* Don't put any points in Merchantile and don't pass persuasion
*Step 2:* Do a few cycles of this trick with the added step of selling to the alchemist in Gorhart until you have enough gold to do the rest of the steps.
*Step 3:* Save up 6 to 12 Refuge gems with enough gold to buy a single refuge gem from Brother Gamian

*Step 4:* Sell a single gem from your stack of Refuge gems to Gamian
*Step 5:* Exit the trade menu
*Step 6:* Enter trade again, then buyback the gem at full price
*Step 7:* Without closing the trade menu, go to the sell tab and sell him the full gem stack

Doing it this way will sell all of the gems you have in your inventory at buy price, which is *_28, 120g per gem with 4 mercantile and his discount (it should increase with lower mercantile and if you don't have the discount)._*

Just tried this out on the remaster and I can confirm it does in fact work.

Would recommend that players make Gems of Refuge as opposed to Gems of Phasing.

At 1 point into Merchantile:
Gem of Refuge nets me 4017 gold
Gem of Phasing nets me 3246 gold

Gem of Refuge:
Cloudy Magic Shard + Cloudy Protction Shard

I'm not claiming this is the best method but it works for me -

Go to Rathia, Gwalchmai's goods in the main area, guy by the sagecraft Altar, buy 6 lambent protection and magic shards, fast travel to Canneroc like the video said and I usually rest for 7 days just to be absolutely sure, travel back to Rathia buy more shards and repeat as many times as you want depending on how much gold you need, I'd recommend having 200, 000-300, 000 gold to do big hauls.
When you have enough shards, combine them all in the armour mod slot then sell one gem to him, back out of the trade menu then go back in, buy back that gem you sold to him for his price and your stack will be worth whatever price he charged you, around 60k each if you have a few points into mercantile

Here's another tip. If you find gems that you don't want and have equipment with matching gem sockets, use a sagecraft altar to put them in the equipment. It will lower your inventory and make the equipment more valuable. Also, the gem you get from the mage in Ysa for the "order of operations" (I think that's what it's called) can be used in Ayten during the "one man's trash" quest. Put it in the dagger before selling it to increase the value of the weapon. This is assuming you don't use the gems, of course.

I know this is old, but fwiw you get 25-50% more selling to Nanne Hanri (after doing her quest). ie for the bloodletting gem the Brother offered 12, 719 and from Hanri I got 15, 898. Now I've never used this method as selling all my loot to Hanri has made me plenty rich (only 3 points in mercantile). I sold a purple bow to Hanri for 12k while other vendors only offered 8k, and that's a 50% this again on xbox one X thanks to BC :D

@fortfish6 Yeah, I should have mentioned that, I'll have to put in an annotation as such. To get max profits I actually went to a Fatweaver and respecced into full on Mercantile.

You should make gems of bloodthirst, it pays out way more than phasing, all you need is cloudy magic shard and cloudy physical shard, they're the same cost for the protection and physical, after you buy those shards go to weapons and combine the two together to get bloodthirst gems

When he stops selling you rare items. You get gold instead. I discovered yesterday if you increase the games difficulty. He starts selling weapons again with a higher level.

for anyone currently playing, get a peasant/ farmer outfit piece, sell to a store, buy back at 2 gold a piece until you max out your inventory then got to moon camp and get the quest to turn in farmer clothes' peasant clothes for a couple hundred gold a piece, rinse and repeat, infinite gold

I tried this in my fame, it doesn't seem to work now. I slept for first 7 and then one more day and the shards still didn't come back.

For optimal profit, I make bloodthirst gems with cloudy physical and magic in the weapons category. I also buy his protection and ice shards and combine those in the armor category.
