In this short video we show how to change clip duration with a simple shortcut in Final Cut Pro X.

We also use the same method to change the duration of multiple clips at the same time to a precise amount of time that you require.

When I do this there is space between all the clips. In your video the videos are still next to each other after setting the time. How do I do this?

Excellent! Thank you for not assuming I have been using Final Cut Pro forever. So many content creators blast through a tip and I have to rewatch and rewatch a video. Sure it looks good when you are searching let''s say it says 5 minutes you think oh cool I will get what I need without too much extra but what happens then is you run through topics and tips so quick you end up watching the video for 10 minutes to understand what they did. I Sub'd as I'm trying to get my channel to 10K subs!

One thing that confused me is that you DON'T click in the area where the duration is shown, you enter the length of time after you do control D, and do not click into the time reading, if you do, it doesn't work at all. You simply do control-D and THEN just type without clicking into anything and it will change all the lengths after hit RETURN, Very confusing, , , ,

Confusing UI. I wish FCPX just exposed the clip duration in the properties pane, the same way transform position and scale are shown.

Ctrl+D does nothing in Lightworks 2023.2. What is the appropriate new way of doing this?

Do you know a way to add 2 second to multiple clips when they have different durations?
For example you have a sequence: clip_1: 2s, clip_2: 3s, clip_3: 7s -> (add 2s to each) -> clip_1: 4s, clip_2: 5s, clip_3: 9s
