I'm sure someone already mentioned this but the distance from marathon to Athens was 26 mile, the last .2 was added during the Olympics when British royalty wanted the course to end right in front of them so the route was extended slightly and this became the new standard distance.

yeah, in some funny ways we're better then horses. People really don't understand their full capabilities as an incredibly evolved running MACHINE. We have leaf springs as feet and awesome giant butts to hold us up. :} Not to mention sweat, oh that sexy-sexy sweat.
