Marines are made for winning our Nation’s battles, driven by an unshakable belief that America’s future is worth fighting for.

This calling is one that only we can answer. Because while many desire to make a difference, only a few can earn their place among Marines. We were made for this.

About the United States Marine Corps:

The Marine Corps defends the people of the United States at home and abroad. Within every Marine is the willingness to engage and determination to defeat any adversary, and it is this fighting spirit that allows us to fight and win our Nation’s battles.

The mission of the United States Marine Corps is made up of three promises: We make Marines, we win our Nation’s battles, and we develop quality citizens prepared to fight and win battles.

You don’t join the Marines—you become one, forged in the crucible of training aboard our recruit depots on Parris Island, South Carolina, in San Diego, California, or through the dedication required of officer candidates at Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. Beyond the physical requirements, aspiring Marines must prove they have the honor, courage, and commitment to face and defeat any obstacle.

Today, more than 180,000 enlisted Marines and 23,000 Marine Officers serve in active-duty or reserve forces on bases and in communities around the world, proudly carrying with them the core values of the Marine Corps.

Enlisted in the Marines one week after graduating from HS in 1965. Those four years in the Corps were transformative for me. Travelled all over the globe from numerous countries in Latin America, Norway and Sweden, the Philippines, Okinawa to Vietnam. Served in Vietnam as a Scout Dog Handler with the First MarDiv. Attached to rifle companies of the 1st, 5th and 7th Marines plus Recon.
Discharged in 1969.
Before I joined I never envisioned being able to go to college. Not enough self-confidence as a young kid and parents with no money. But after returning from the war, I took a chance at college with the help of the GI bill. Went to our state university and earned two degrees. After graduation the business world awaited.
Enjoyed a wonderful career in the chemical industry until retirement in 2013.
I owe much of any success I have earned to my experiences in the four years as a Marine. Those years taught me so much about the keys success. Lessons that cannot be taught; leadership, empathy for your fellow man, enduring hardships, setting goals, loyalty, the ability to laugh at yourself and mentoring people to help them achieve their goals.
Those four year the Marines made me a man!

Joined after 9/11 and fought in Fallujah and Ramadi. It was both one of the best and worst decisions I made in my life but I wouldn't change it. Semper Fi.

To all future recruits, do everything with 100% effort and work as a team, boot camp sets the tone for the rest of your life. I was meritoriously promoted out of boot camp as a scribe in 2007. Organized logistics keeps the Marine Corps functioning properly. Semper Fi 🇺🇸

Prior Marine here. Great organization. I look back at my time and if I had a time machine I would’ve done the exact same thing.
