Waiting for a train at Blackfriars station is one of the loveliest places. You have a fantastic view from the middle of the Thames. Day or night it's beautiful.

0:51 “I was bitten by a radioactive estate agent”?! 😂 Nobody’s ever said that before!

The "new" Blackfriars station also allows you to cross the bridge under cover in rain, as you can tap in at one end, walk to the barriers at the other end, tap out and you won't be charged

I worked on a BBC documentary about the opening of the Tate Modern, it was fascinating to have an insight into all the internal arguments including whether or not to clean the building or leave it as it was. It still feels new to me, and I love the fact you can go to Blackfriars, a station I now adore rather than try to avoid, to get there.

Even though I live in Sweden I’m becoming a seriously addicted London tube-nerd and I blame it all on you. 😉

Having worked for many years in the old Sampson House on Hopton Street it is fascinating to see how much this area has changed. I am surprised that the old 1950's? building on the corner at 03:30 still remains, never ever saw anyone going in and out of that back in the day!

Yessss that *is* the best view in London, when I commute in I always get by the door in readiness to check it out and I know I'm not the only one.

lived right next to the southside entrance of blackfriars it was super convenient, especially for late night flights I needed to catch. feels like the rebuild was the right choice !

I think the extension of Blackfriars was the better call, yes - for the reasons you gave. Better use of space, better use of money, makes more sense operationally. And whilst you could say the view outside was spoiled a bit, I mean, you're spot on - *inside* the station has the best view of any station in London, certainly of any of its termini. I honestly wish I used Blackfriars more; it's a very nice place to be in my opinion. I was there once at night and yeah the view is fantastic.

Great video!

Had London kept its trams, the four-track line into Blackfriars & the underutilised Holborn Viaduct would provide a way to get trams into the City. Trams from outer London would join an express corridor at Camberwell (effectively providing fast lines to the tramway's congested Walworth Road corridor) and stop at Walworth, Elephant and Castle, Borough Road, a new stop on a flyover over the London Bridge lines, Blackfriars, Ludgate Hill and Holborn Viaduct. The bay platforms at Blackfriars and Holborn Viaduct would provide ample room for turning loops and the old Ludgate Hill island platform could be retained to provide a single City station for a cross-river heavy rail service (let's call it "Fleetlink"). A third track on the Tate Modern flyover would grade-separate what is Thameslink's main junction.

Tate Modern HAS a dedicated station. It exists without form, unembodied, a platonic ideal of the TRUTH of a station carrying the countless spirits and visions of all the artists in all of us… balanced gently on an empty and unwashed baked bean tin in Chelsea. It cost 1.8 million pounds.

I visited the Tate Modern when it was still a power station, as my uncle worked there.

Seprate stations north and south of the river may have made sense when Thamelsink first happened, but when it became Thameslink 2000-and-counting, complete with 12-car trains, the platforms at Blackfriiars were going to extend so much further across the river that the simpler solution was to make it double ended.
Indeed, making even termini double-ended seesm like a good idea, to spread out passengers both in the statiuon and on the train. The recent extensions Waterloo were a missed opportunity - the country end now spans Westminster Bridge Road, and an entrance there would have been very handy for the Whitehall mandarins and their political masters.

Perhaps Blackfriars station should be renamed as Blackfriars (for Tate Modern). I have been to Tate Modern several times and the building is so mesmerising.

And also walked along the pedestrianised bridge that wobbled a lot some 20 years ago when it was erected over the River Thames.

6:10 That building reminds me of the art style of _Rocko's Modern Life_ where all the buildings were drawn in broad curving shapes instead of straight lines and right angles. I wouldn't be surprised if Conglom-O were headquartered there.

We need a list of your your book recommendations. Could we have a separate video on it?
