CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The Cincinnati Zoo is just days away from opening up its Roo Valley.
Roo Valley will have the Zoo's first kangaroo walkabout. It will also be the new home to the little blue penguins.
Roo Valley is the latest effort in the Zoo's More Home to Roam campaign. The Zoo is working to transform Zoo habitats to give animals more space.
“We’re thrilled that we were able to complete Roo Valley and are resuming efforts to raise funds that will allow us to realize the ultimate goal of More Home to Roam, which is to build an Asian elephant habitat that goes further than ever to recognize and accommodate the biological instincts of these amazing creatures,” said Cincinnati Zoo director Thane Maynard.
Roo Valley is also environmentally friendly, using rainwater collected for the water that flows through it and the penguin pool. There is also a green roof over the penguin habitat and a geothermal well system to help regulate the temperate of the pools.
Roo Valley opens on August 18. An ADA-accessible ropes course is set to open next year.
